I didn't know Mantua also made a clear hobby shop demonstrator model for the 1990's F7 with 8 wheel Mehano drive. Makes sense, though, since they were trying to shake off the Powertorque curse.

Here's the auction description:

RARE MANTUA-TYCO HO SCALE CLEAR SHELL F-7/ F-9 DEALER DISPLAY POWERED LOCOMOTIVE NEW IN BOX.

This is a really cool item and must have item for any train enthusiast. Allows you too see all the inner components of the train. I purchased this from a former Mantua employee. It is brand new and tested to see that it works perfectly and put back in the box. Light works as well.

The winning bid was $92.85, and the seller is in Berlin, NJ, not far from the old Mantua plant.

I wonder if there are any clear shelled GP20's out there.

That's pretty slick Nelson. Sort of puts the thought in mind of scratching some sort of clear locomotive.

I was watching that auction, too...I knew it was probably going to go high, but was hoping to have a chance at it. But I'm not paying near $100 for a clear shell engine. Got other stuff I'd rather have. Wonder if I sent a Tyco shell to china, if they could mold and shoot some in clear? Probably. A fantasy project.

Jerry, you could make one from clear urethane.

Of course the cost of setup with the better platinum rubber (prevents the sticky finish you get with tin rubber) is going to cost as much as that loco, so...
