Going Canadian this week, my CP purchase from the Timonium, MD show. Needs a power truck, but I have those to replace the missing unit. Will probably build a small CP consist, I just saw some CP tyco boxcars at the shop getting priced, will get all 3 colors to pull behind this unit. :)

My LOTW is a bit of an unusual one for my collection since it is O scale, but it is scratch built, therefore I like it...

It is a brass 2-8-0 CNJ Camelback steam locomotive.

Just picked up this nice pair of Tyco SP Daylight sharks, both powered. Now I need a matching Tyco trainset. I think I might just try kitbashing an articulated coach from two Tyco coaches and see how that turns out.

Does this qualify as a locomotive?
I wasn't sure where to post this.
I kind of group it in with the Athearn Hustler and the Jouef MOW unit I posted some time back.
This thing has a ridiculous top speed. I've flopped it on it's side many times on curves.
Tri-ang made this one.

That Camelback is awesome, Sean. (Thanks for fueling a growing interest in O scale brass, BTW... that's the last thing I need. ) Someone with a lot of skill fabricated that.

Definitely a cool piece. Seems like it needs some sort of braking function for those curves.

** This weeks is a ATT brass steamer.

Yesterday, I picked up a Mantua Booster at the Great Midwest Train Show:

I've always liked those engines.

When I got it, it was dirty, corroded and gummed up with grease that was probably as old as I am. I cleaned and greased it and it runs well enough except that the four wheel pickup needs the track to be operating room clean for it to run for more than a few minutes without crusting up its wheels.

I've been working on a Big Six frame and am considering altering it to use under the booster. In my experience on my layout, 0-6-0's have worked many times better than 0-4-0's for electrical pickup and wheel cleanliness.

I know that Mantua made the Little Six that was an 0-6-0T version of the Booster, but I haven't seen them for sale around here, and I like the wheel spacing better on the Big Six. Some measuring and pondering lie ahead.

Everyone's contribution is terrific and unusual. Here is a triplet inspired by AMC Gremlin.
An AHM C Liner, Athearn F Unit, and a Tyco unit straining to pull a 25 car Tyco
NH string up a 1.5% grade at the El Paso Model Train Club. The disparity of the
three locomotives is evened out by weight of the train and the drag of not-so-free
rolling Tyco wheel sets. Note the lights are on in all 3 cabs; this is not a static pose.
By the way, thanks to JimandNancy and GMoney, this string just got two cars longer!

Evan, That thing is crazy cool. I'm assuming the propeller turns as it is "zooming" around. How about a video of this thing in action?

With the slanted steam chest, and smaller lead drivers, these buggers are pretty much hill climbers! Just need to improve the traction.

They do sort of have that look, but they'd also need an inclined frame, boiler, and a geared rack to run on.

That's exactly what mine sounds like.
In fact, mine runs better in reverse.
I got it going very fast forward by adding teflon powder to the needle bearings, but it falls out rather quick.
I wonder what the Atlas version runs like.

Got a bonus with my little Booster loco today. It also included the original warranty card, filled out. It seems that it was purchased sometime in Dec 56/Jan 57 by a man named Walter Hitie(?) and the card was filled out on Jan 10, 1957. I love it when this kind of information is included with a purchase.

Got the motor cleaned up and it really runs well. It turns constantly at about 2.25 volts and runs real smooth.

Do you, per chance, have a photo of your booster as of now or is that gonna be next week?

I posted photos of the Booster and the box earlier in this thread. Anything specific you were interested in?

Right now, it's torn down for restoration. Even have the original loop couplers for it.
