I picked up a Walthers bulkhead flat car plastic model kit (the one with the 3 "eras" of railroading printed on the box) in September at my local swap meet. It was painted yellow and lettered for MEC, but my research failed to find a real prototype for it- even on Railroad Pictures Archives.net! I did find a nearly similar flat car for Frisco that seemed a bit closer to what I had:

So, I removed the offending MEC paint and decals, repainted it for Frisco and made decals that fit the spaces between the stake pockets. Then I painted and weathered the deck.
The model came with stakes for loose loads, like cut timber, etc., but they were pretty shaky when fit into the pockets, so I opted to make a packaged load instead, that required no stakes.
An empty bulkhead flat car with wiggly-waggly stakes (that would surely break off sooner or later) was not as attractive as a loaded one, even if my weathering is hidden.
In the July 2011 issue of MRH, I found an article where a modeler made lumber wrap on an MS Excel template, sized for three different scales, so I borrowed his free downloadable HO template and substituted a Masonite Corp. wrap logo for his lumber company one.
Kadee couplers, IM metal wheels and the load secured with double-stuck tape on the deck, and it's all done.
This is the result:

Hope you like it.
