I just received this locomotive and am trying to find out when it was made. The one by Tyco is a different color with different smoke stack and domes. Anyone have a Mantua catalog from the early to mid 60's? The roadname and loco name are both printed on the sides.
thanks in advance for any help.

From the 60's. Part of the Tyco Red box era set "Petticoat Junction" set. " Heck with counting 'em rivets, TRAINS ARE FOR FUN! Not called the Mad Scientist for nothing either!"

Went to the website and found the Tyco set. However, the locomotive they show is not like this one. The boiler and tender colors are different. I would think that it has been kitbashed, if the lettering was decals and not printed on.

The locomotive with the red tender is a catalog illustration. The locomotive with the gray tender is the way they were produced. I have never seen one with a red tender.

Tyco made about a billion of these engines, they're not hard to find at all. The catalog illustration must be a pre-production prototype done with the Santa Fe red and green production loco. Santa Fe and Bicentennial are most common.
