Tyco MU-2 motor repower? Has anyone tried to remove the Tyco motor assembly completely from the MU-2 motor block? After doing so try to fit a can or open frame type replacement motor in the space with some modification, I have seen some Tyco power torque motor blocks modified to use a CD-Rom motor from a computer drive.

A MU2 can't be remotored with another motor. You could always retrofit a different chassis. A Tyco GP20 could fit a Mantua classics GP20 or a Athearn GP9 blue box era chassis with minor frame modification. F units will fit blue box era Athearn f's. A MU2 riveted plate can be drilled out for further motor work and tapped for a 2-56 I think. Good motor usually. A pt in a older Tyco can be tricky as the thimble is different.
" Heck with counting 'em rivets, TRAINS ARE FOR FUN! Not called the Mad Scientist for nothing either!"

Hold on there, RJ. A NWSL can motor, I think it's a 1422 can be substituted in a MU2. Or NWSL has a 5/8 armature, with better windings, that can be swapped out.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.
