Marx my words, you'll like this one. Don't often see Marx O gauge diesels, at least I don't. Found this one at the Carlisle flea Friday, 0-27 gauge, so had to get it for 15. Bought a Marx red Commodore wind-up 0-27 for a buddy of mine from the vendor, too. Anyway, am going to take this to my hobby shop job today and see if it runs. Very nice shape, the rear coupler is broken, but can deal with that.

Great stuff you got there, Jerry.
MY loco this week, A Lindsay FA shell I picked up at a train show in Nanaimo, B.C. about a year ago. $1.00 Only missing a few steps, which are still available. Yes I know, stupid cheap, again. It polished up nicely.A Model Power/Roco chassis fit with very little filing. Evan

Evan, that shell is beautiful. I think I would be tempted to leave it just as is - the bare metal polished up is impressive. Would love to get a better lok at the fan screen.

Why are you taunting me Chops?
The price of KM locos on ebay is officially stupid expensive. There was a KM "junk" lot last week that was more or less a bunch of abused shells, averaged out to about $10 PER SHELL.

Nice stuff so far guys.My LOTW is something I've been trying to track down for quite some time now. It's a Mantua 4-6-2 from the mid 1950's. Runs great, looks pretty good, it's just good. The only big gripe about it is that it has tons of problems on my Bachmann E-Ztrack curves.Thankfully, I do have another layout that uses Kato track which works just fine with it. It still shows a bit of a struggle on them on the Kato track, but it makes it through it without needing the slightest push. I got it for $30 along with a nice little box car which I'll show in next week's COTW. The guy selling it said he got everything he was selling from estates so yeah.Anyway, enough of the "backstory", let's get to the picture.

I didn't even know Tyco made a GM&O version. Is it MU-2 or PT? Either way a beautiful scheme.

Hi Jerry!
It's a PT powered loco. It's actualiy somewhat difficult to find given that it was only produced one year. Still think the WP version is the best but this one isn't too far behind.

Hi AMC_Gremlin_GT,
I love that red diesel! I have it in green for the W P. I picked up a boxed set a year or so ago. It's funny that on both my engine and caboose, The lettering has faded almost completely away.
Thanks for sharing.

Here's a picture of the prototype in action. I think it's an old picture, because if I remember right, it was eventually given a 4-axle tender. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3901528

That Pufferbelly is pretty slick Sean. And I dig Richard's trolley. I picked up one of those thinking I might use it in a shadow box, or at least use the frame of it. I wondered, after looking at it, why the designers of this piece didn't seem concerned about lining up the journal ends with the wheels and axles (or am I totally ignorant of trolleys and I'm missing something?)? It is fun to watch those trolleys scoot around the track.

The journal boxes would have to be around the bearings, which would have to be around the axles, so I think your observation is right on the mark.
I wonder if this is a Power Torque drive. If the trolley was designed to fit over the truck with the MU-2 motor and that was later replaced with the Power Torque, the wheel base would then be longer and would not fit quite right.
If you had one of these, I think it would be wise to paint the outside surface of the wheels a grimy black color like wheels with journal bearings get. That would make it harder to see the wheels and the fact that they're a little misplaced.

Yeah Don, those "truck sides" (if that's what they can be called) are plastic, and I believe you could cut and glue and get them to line up with the axle ends without affecting performance. I just anticipate it being tricky not to make a mess with the glue or whatever lining up some tiny framework. I get a kick watchin' my little trolley like that run and it's probably good I haven't taken a knife to it.

AAMOF, I just worked on one of those Tyco Broadway trolley's last night, it had the older MU-2 motor in it. All the copper electrical contact areas needed cleaning, but once done, it ran nicely up and down the track. Before, is was just jerking and stopping quite a bit. It'd take some kitbashing to make those side trucks fit right. Maybe with a 3D printer, you could make new ones eventually. I'll have to get out my box of trolleys to work on, I haven't done anything with them in awhile.

Barry, if you managed to find one of these in brass, do not use the frame of it for anything but the loco.. They are ultra rare and typically sell for close to $300 if complete. If it is the plastic one... hack away!

Got another Bachmann DCC diesel:
Blue-and-yellow Santa Fe GP38-2. It does need a bit of cleaning for it to run efficiently, and maybe a few more tune-ups. I've assigned it to the same address as my BNSF GP40-2, so it can be used in a double-header setup!

Ok all. This is my first post here, so please be patient. I found this pre-1960s Mantua General on eBay earlier this year. It had been stored since 1960, according to the owner, and needed some work. This locomotive has the smoke stack molded separately from the boiler and the drive shaft came in 3 parts. Here are a couple of photos.
Locomotive as originally received.
Locomotive as restored.

Thank you. I tracked down photos of the existing General and used those for the restoration. I used acetone to strip the paint off and then vinegar to prep the surface for primer and painting. Next project is a kit-bash of the General after it was rebuilt in the late 1860's.
