My SOTW is a modern Amtrak Empire Builder. After we rode the train in May 2013 I wanted to recreate it as well as I could. The locomotives are an Athearn AMD 103 I stripped and redid in the current Amtrak scheme, as well as a Trainline GE Dash 8-32BWH that I also repainted. They are followed by a Con-Cor baggage car and a string of Walthers Superliners (Coach/baggage, diner, lounge, sleeper). The real Empire Builder had another 4-5 cars, but I'm stopping here - they are too dang pricey.

LOL...it's funny but now that those moving plans are becoming more concrete I am noticing things like that too. I'm sure I will miss this place!

Great set, JNXT! I see trains like that all the time going through my hometown.

My SOTW is a N&W passenger set, forgot where I picked it up at, but I finally did some work on it, replaced the X2F couplers Saturday with Kadees, and added metal wheels, then ran them at my club's Open House show same day. They ran smoothly with no problems. There's a 4th car in the set, it needed some work, but will have to undo some glue work to get to the trucks and wiring, as it's lighted. But happy that the N&W cars are finally being used rather than stored. Been making quite a bit of progress the last few months, happy about that!

Great sets, Jerrys!
JNXT, on the first Amtrak engine how did you paint that nice curving swoop along the roofline? It came out really well.

Both very enjoyable and unique sets. That N&W layout appears to be quite the ticket! Is that privately owned or club?? Either way, nice fascia, nice ballast, impeccable scenery!
By the way, JNXT, we have two seasons here in West Texas: the season of Freeze and the Season of Fry. We are currently in the season of Fry. In the Houston area you will also have two seasons: the season of Gray and the season of Parboil. You must really be motivated. Rick Perry and his Merry Kast of Klowns send you a big Tejas Howdy.

Thanks Cheez - and I was going to add before that I didn't know which was harder, painting Santa Fe warbonnets or the current Amtrak 'swoop'! It was an exercise in very careful masking, looking at photos of the prototype and trying to match. Not exact match I'm sure but close! I painted the blue first, because silver doesn't seem to take too well to masking.

LOL - Chops, if it wasn't for all the family we have down there we would be staying here in the land of real 4 seasons (WV). Yes I have visited and experienced tastes of The Freeze and The Fry. What can I say but that we are putting A/C at the top of the list for the next house!

Nice sets. This set which is not fully shown has a Tyco F unit and Walthers Horizon coaches.

That is the PWMRC club layout. It's been a bone of contention for club members since it was built in 2005, as the club was all modular beforehand. But it was one of the reasons I joined the club, because I would then have a place to run my DCC engines, not having a working module ( then, or now ). New blood has joined the club, and Operating sessions are being done, so it's getting used. We rent the space from the VRE railway people, for quite reasonable. One day they may jack the rent up so we'll have to leave, but so far, no one else has wanted that space for any reason, so we're OK for now. I helped with one little mountain corner, and it turned out pretty well, with two other guys helping in the same area. That's all the scenic stuff I've done, other than populate the layout with AMC cars. and a 1957 Chevy Suburban, and some Tri-Chevy cars. One day I may try my hand at some scenic work.

The Tyco Santa Fe F-7 #4015 gets around, I think I have even seen it on my own layout.
