This week, my AOTW is a Funline Muscle Machines Dupont 55 Chevy. I got it at a train show late last year along with a patriotic version of it for $5. If you're wondering about the patriotic car, I'll be posting it in next week's AOTW and in that one I'll explain what exactly it was made for and why I'm waiting till next week.

Thank you, Barry. That's why I got it in the first place.

My AOTW is an older blister pack of Mercury light poles. The names of these poles seem to confuse some people to beLIEving they are special. Basically, Tyco, Life-Like, etc have "bulbs" in their light poles. The term Mercury here, only means that the bulbs have a horrible blue coating on them that seems to do nothing more that obstruct light.
Same as Tyco Fluorescent poles... The Fluorescent is misleading. There is NO Heavenly Glow, from these bulbs... Great old Toy poles though!!

My AOTW is this super nice Tyco turnout This is the first time I have seen one of these and I am just blown away This is a moveable frog turnout and the workmanship is impeccable The switch machine detail is very well executed The electrical setup is unbelievably sophisticated for an item of this vintage and features power routing for the points and frog and it looks like activation contacts for signals and the mechanism also includes sliders for a signal indicator (broken/missing) on mine This might give some indication of the workmanship involved, it says made in Hong Kong

When I was growing up, street lights were mercury vapor fluorescent lights and they were a dull, muddy looking blue-green light. Sometime in the 1970's the yellow sodium vapor lights we have now were being phased in. To the human eye, which sees yellow light with both the red and green sensing cones, yellow is the brightest color and appears to illuminate better than any other color. During that transition, My dad, my brother and I flew into Chicago in a little Cessna and there were alternating blocks of blue-green street lights and yellow street lights. It was pretty to see.
When I was learning to drive I hated the old mercury vapor lights because they glared in your eyes but didn't really illuminate anything. Man, I'm glad they're mostly gone!

My AOTW is a 3-way turnout made by some crazy Italian company I've never heard of, called Casadio. It's got horrible brass rails and is probably the cheapest 3-way turnout there ever was.
(yes I know I stole the photo but I'm too lazy to get out my camera)
I almost got a matching double-slip switch with it, but a trainset-quality double-slip seemed like a recipe for a migraine if I ever tried to install it, so it stayed with the original owner

PRR, the picture appears to be broken. I apologize for acting like Microbusss there. But still, it's true.

Jose Harbor, or if you prefer, Jose Jarbor. In any event, this was pounded together for a module show from Amtrak National Train Day.
