Taken a few years back. St Louis National Transportation Museum. I took the picture, but do not remember what this is. I have not found anything online.

Looks like a bathtub with head lights.

I believe this is the Reading Railroad's "Black Diamond" inspection locomotive. Apart from that, I don't know too much about this locomotive, but it sure looks bizarre. The 2-2-2 wheel configuration is also very unique.

Yep! After searching the web a bit, I found that the St Louis National Transportation Museum has the Black Diamond itself at the museum. This information made me conclude that that strange thing you found at the museum is the Black Diamond inspection car.

The Black Diamond was recently cosmetically restored by the MOT. Here is what she looks like today, I took these the week after the engines unveiling.

Thanks,
It has changed since 2008. Next time I will take a better picture of the sign.

I think the closest to this is this Ken Kidder model:

A full size version is at Travel Town:

The story goes that the engine was fired using two young boys to shovel coal because there was no room for an adult fireman. The interior is pretty cool and looks like it would be a hoot to ride in.....very Wild,Wild West!

I have another one here that is a little closer, but still not the same:

This one appears to me to be scratch built. I think if you wanted this locomotive, you almost need to scratch build one yourself. Fortunately, it is small enough I think this is somewhat easily doable if you have moderate to fine modeling skills.

Although hang on. That mechanism on your 0-4-0 seems like it might have been taken from a Mantua 0-4-0. Pretty neat looking engine though.

Nope.. It's not. I've looked it over pretty good. The chassis is brass and is assembled from brass sheet/bar stock as it looks to me. Mantua made theirs from either brass C-channel or cast zimax.

Chassis is from an early version of the "New One"/Aristo camelback 0-4-0. Stack appears to be from the same loco.
