Starting off purple this week, I found a nice ACL Observation car at a local Virginia train show, would look nice as an excursion car behind an ACL F7 or something similar that I have, so I got it for 16. Nice Athearn piece, I managed to drop it taking it out of the box, so now I have to repair a coupler, and reattach the rear "glass" in the back, it's loose inside now. Sigh. At least that's all the damage it did, nothing to the body I could see. Whew!

Keeping with the passenger car theme, my COTW is an Athearn Genesis Napa Valley coach. (I have three types of them and I posted one already in the COTW section.)

A string of mostly Tyco B&M box cars towed by ersatz RS12, gifts from Leo G. of Massachusetts, who prowls train shows and estate sales with his lady friend, when he is not growing tomatoes and taking the grand kids to the Butterfly Atrium.

How much does a used caboose, like that, run for? I've heard some pretty high estimates, but can't quite believe them...

10s of 1000s of dollars to even buy one! Then a few more 1000s just to move it!

All Nice cars guys! I favor Redwoods and Catfordken's so far this week. But Jerry's Atlantic Coast Line Passenger car is neat too!
This one is on the layout table so I will use it in this weeks COTW. AHM's Woolworth box car. Another hard to find piece...

MY COTW is an IHC Santa Fe Pleasure Dome. It has seen 1 or 2 repaints in it's lifetime, starting out originally in L&N paint (which never had a dome car), then in JNXT colors...and another one I can't quite remember. Which is fine because that's the way most real passenger rolling stock goes through life. I picked this as its final repaint, looked like it was meant to have this look. #503 "Plaza Santa Fe".

That's what I was gonna say!Seriously though, nice passenger car and I do have to agree with you that it's back story is very much like a lot of passenger cars.

You load small packages into the roof hatch on the left and then the guy pushes them out the door. Here's a video:

I'm totally with you. I'm tempted to do one in REA myself.
I've added an actuator in front of my REA building at the Redwoods and Pacific passenger terminal. I still need to add a platform to catch the packages.
In some ways the Tyco operating boxcar makes more sense in express service at the front of a passenger train.

hey, Redwoods IF you do a boxcar with REA on it Use the more modern REA logo on the boxcar Like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RAILWAY-EXPRESS-AGENCY-REA-ADVERTISING-PORCELAIN-SIGN-Station-Train-Railroad-/190775043952

I like the modern REA logo too. I'd probably use the more modern 50-foot plug door for that project.

My car of the week is a Tyco 1860's combine that I traded for with Chops. I've been wanting one of these "flat roof" styles instead of the Overton style to better match what the 4-4-0 might have pulled, though when it comes down to it, I guess they probably pulled a little of everything.
/tyco/forum/uploaded/barry/20140816192941_100_4482.jpg
It was fun watchin the General pull it around, but really should have had better lighting to get a decent video.
