I found these couplers on one of my new IHC Alcos. Kind of a hybrid design that works with both knuckle and horn-hook couplers. I think I had read about them before but had never seen one. Pretty cool, would be great for a transition car. Unfortunately these couplers are mounted too low to match up with any of my knuckle couplers
Does anyone know what these are called...and if they are available anywhere?

IHC 'compatible 2000' / 'magic-mate' / 'mate-a-matic'. IHC Texas says they still have some, but i would verify that first before ordering from them :

They go back as far as A.H.M.'s waning days, under the "Mate-a-Matic" name. I have some that I installed on a bit of my Mehano equipment, like my Santa Fe Alco Century 628 (came in Life-Like packaging) and Chattanooga 0-8-0 tender (rebranded by Tyco). I do also like those little hole thingies you can fit into the couplers for use on Tyco, Bachmann or Life-Like equipment! (Anyone else offer something like that to fit into Kadee or Bachmann's E-Z Mate couplers?)

Good timing! I just found 3 pairs a few weeks back and was wondering what the hell they were but I was too lazy to ask. Now we know. Thanks!

You don't see those everyday.

Not quite the same, but Kadee has their #212 Talgo coupler box adapter for #5 couplers. I should buy some, someday, just to see how they work.

I've had fair success with them - a decent compromise to a body-mount coupler box. I've used them with McHenrys/EZ Mates too, with the small adaptor rings that fit over the Tyco coupler pin.

Beats buying kadees by the truck load. I am 85% complete with my kadee conversion otherwise I would give them a try.

They are a good idea, but I don't like the loose glad hand that flops around at the slightest touch.

Here was another coupler "experiment." This by Mantua to try to accommodate knuckle and horn hook.
