Hi,
Yet another example of a Ready-To-Run HO-Scale EMD SD-45 will be coming to HO-Scale in the next year. This time from Athearn's "Ready-To-Roll" series is an upgraded version of the former Rail Power Products' SD-45 shell. No official announcement from Athearn yet, but look for it soon to be announced. This should retail for around $90 and I'd look for Athearn to do some unique roadnames. As the SD-45 has recently been done and done well by Kato, Life-Like Proto 2000, and Bachmann's most recent upgrade to its Spectrum example is pretty well done, I'd say we'll see something different from Athearn. Maybe they'll do a high-hood example or as mentioned perhaps offer roadnames not seen from the other guy's SD-45s. I'd like to see an orange-and-white Illinois Central Gulf #7000...the road's one and only SD-45.
Athearn has done a really nice job on most of these ex-Rail Power issues. I have three GP-35s, Wabash-Rio Grande-TP&W, and am getting the new Illinois Central SD-40 this week. Have been very pleased with all.
