Unfortunately, my Mother passed away a few years ago. Love ya still, Mom! My COTW post will be a hometown nod, I picked up a Tyco 4647 RF&P caboose at an antique flea on Saturday, ANY RF&P stuff is hard to find, I wasn't aware that Tyco had done one. But I got one now! Will add it to my Athearn boxcars and my Atlas GP-40 engine consist soon. Will be a short consist, but hey, it's a start.

It may well be, as they ARE decals, and not silkscreen painted. I just noticed the blue paint around the silver cupola, the mask-off wasn't perfect. But, whoever did it did a NICE job on it! For $8, I'm not arguing about who did what, it's a Tyco and it's RF&P, so that doubles my pleasure. :)

Alright fine. I'll repost my COTW here. It's a Roundhouse Southern Pacific box car I got at the train show for $15 as is.

I stole this picture from Ebay because my camera was acting up. I got a Lionel Horse Car at the Merchants Square Train Show in Allentown, PA. Merchants Square is the old office wing of the WWII Vultee aircraft plant , converted into little shops. They have some kind of show every week in what used to be the cafeteria.

I never saw this car before and had to have it! Of course now I've seen a couple on Ebay, but that's not what I paid! The horse heads are balanced on a pivot so that any movement of the car makes them move their heads in and out. Pretty cool and fool proof - no springs or rubber bands.

If it had used trains I'd visit it ALOT

Any convention, custom railroad names or special run cars would be hard to find since so few were made

I really dislike the people that work there. They are know. To be jerks. We are lucky to have 6-7 train stores within 50 miles of SoCal so I prefer to go to whistlestop, allied trains, roundhouse (favorite), arnies trains, Pegasus and any other place besides trainshack. I just happened to be in the area so stopped off.

Jeff. I never seen one before, or another after I got this one. It is heavy and needs no load to give it weight. The only other gondolas I have seen similar to it are the Gilbert ones from the late 1930's and 1940's. The Walters being a larger gondola. I should take a photo of the two together . I cant right now because all my trains are put away into boxes because a contractor will start soon installing new windows in the attic. I know where the Gilbert ones are but not that Walters one. When the work is done, that is if I remember, It will be one of the first photos I take.

My bet is mid-late 1940s or sometime around then. Should you ever dig it out, if you post a picture of the bottom, I could probably tell you what year(s) it's from, especially if you happen to have the original couplers or know what they looked like, might help...

Also the single gleaming wheel is because that's actually a pair of caboose trucks that /should/ have one side brass, one side plastic wheels for electrical pickup. I have one lying around that matches them. Original trucks will look rather like Varney sprung bettendorf trucks, except with large rubber plugs where the springs should go, just like HOTCO made in the 70s-80s.

I got this and one other like it on an old Mantua Shifter. They did not, at first, make good tender trucks, because when the rubber springs compressed, the electrical connection between the side frames and truck bolsters was bad. I fixed that with the bronze strips from the axles to the bolsters that you see in the pictures.
