last week there was a posting of an Athearn UP cow/calf set that I said looked really good together. Then it dawned on me that I had the same set boxed away. I dug it out and posted it here for all to see.

My LOTW is an Athearn Amtrak FP7. I took an A and B shell and spliced them together to get the required extra 4' of the FP7 over a F7, and put it on a stretched Globe chassis. This is an unpowered unit, intended to run in front of either a powered F7B or be the lead loco in front of a pair of SDP40Fs on an early Amtrak train.

Here is the inspiration:

My LOTW is an N scale Kato Union Pacific GP-38 that I got at a train show for $45 as is. I may be asking a stupid question but was that a good price for that engine?

Love the Amtrak FP-7, nice work! Here's mine--shamefully, no effort required, just bought it! It's an old Atlas--very smooth runner, but with a headlight that lights the entire cab and half the countryside!

One good Southern Crescent deserves another.

I've had this since I was 16. This was taken after I repowered it with a simple Mabuchi motor that makes it run like silk.

This sweet old Mantua was Uboat was languishing on the back shelf, destined for eventual oblivion until a Tyco Forum regular schooled me on its relative ease of repair. Now she is running like a top. Seen here rushing popsicles to El Paso in advance of the nuclear hot summer.

Now metalsmith, that "cow-calf" thing has got to be the most interesting thing I've seen. I definitely learned something new today. Nice looking model by the way.

Got this at local hobby shop,,brand new mint condition, I could not resist it , a Mike that cost less than a brand new Cadilac ! a 2-8-2 Mikado IHC/Mehano Runs Sweet The hobby shop owner also sells used items, he thought this was used and had it at a nice used price,,i jumped on it.
one more note,,the back up light on the tender actually lights up when in reverse

Popsicle cars. Thank heavens that NH Uboat can only pull four of them. Otherwise I'd slide down the Slippery Slope and end up with this:

Nice photos from all. I liked Jeff's birdseye view of the train action. This next engine I bought at the New Hope PA train show on May 4. It runs fine and is Tyco engine 1102 lettered for Chessie railroad.

Here is your basic Athearn blue box switcher with a Train Miniature box car. They are my attempt at lettering for my home road of the RGM&N, a short line that went under in the 1930's, but lives on in my version of history.

The stockyard above, to give proper credit, belongs to the El Paso Model Train Club and was done by the late "Doc" Harrison, a large animal veterinarian, and a prolific contributor to the Club. Thank you the kind words. Somewhere up there "Doc" says, "thanks!"

My latest acquisition:
Amtrak Dash 8-40BW by Walthers, obviously based off the Amtrak Dash 8-32BWH locomotives of the early '90s (complete with "Pepsi Can" paint scheme!) Great runner (complete with dual-flywheel drive), and I plan to upgrade it to DCC as well.

That kato is an older blue box version. 45.00 wasnt a bad price for it, especially considering its a Kato...I used to have tons of Kato N scale engines till i sold em all and went up to HO.

Thanks for telling me it wasn't bad. A lot of people at the train show kinda didn't like how much I paid for it and bugged me about it from time to time. That's pretty much why I asked that question.

All that matters is if you think you were ripped off or not and if you like it or not. That applies to almost everything that you can buy actually.

Well unless they would like to donate 45.00 to the fund for you they have nothing much to say.....Generally the N gauge Katos with the Blue box meaning on the sides were the part number would be are the older non DCC compatible units. If you wanted to put DCC in it, you would have to mill the frame to do it. Also it has the older rapido style couplers on it. Generally the newer ones have the micro train style couplers. They run like lil Bulls though. Good Pick up

OMG someone actually did this! I found a kitbashed shell for an FP7/FL9 (okay, not quite either one but close) and gave it to a friend who I knew would want to build one, and he's been bitching at me about not knowing how to put a frame under it for the longest time. I'll take your suggestion and give him one of the spare Globe frames I bought a week ago (what good timing!), and since he wants an FL9, maybe I should just give him a spare 3-axle truck too. (Our agreement is that if I feed him parts he can't find, he paints stuff for me. Works well.)
