My Penco (Pemco?) GG1 has openings for running lights, so I made lenses. I heated plastic stirrers and stretched them down to near hole size, and filed to fit. Melted the inside for light pickup, and passed them through a bit. Melted the outside part and it drew back and rounded off nicely. Convenient to have a metal shell for this step. Put in an Athearn chassis, the finished unit looks much like the Tyco version, only 12 wheels. Only purists would notice the difference, most folks don't know how many wheels trains have. It looks real good with the room lights off, this will be my Christmas under the tree train.

Looks good, even if the trucks aren't prototypical (it's still more realistic than the Tyco trucks)! I believe it's a Penn Line body, as the Pemco body was plastic and scale length, and is still being used by Mehano (formerly imported by IHC). Penn Line and Varney both made "shorty" all metal GG-1s in the 50's and 60's.
Darth Santa Fe, doing weird and challenging projects for the fun of it!
