Hi, I'm new to the forum and I've been into model trains since 2004 when I got an Athearn train set. Ever since then, I've been into trains. I also got into trains because I happened to live in a railroad town where trains go past it every day. Also, before I start posting about my trains and stuff, how do I put pictures into the forums?

Oops, um. I have a Mac so the tutorial doesn't help too much.

Do you know how to post .jpg files? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if I'm getting a little annoying.

Sorry, I use Windows and I do not believe you can post from the phone. The image file name must be something with no breaks in the name or else it will not load...
ie: "SteamLoco.jpg" is OK, but "Steam Loco.jpg" is not!
Make sure your picture file names are as simple as possible and you should have no problem loading, no matter the operating system.

How can I upload a photo from my iPhone to my computer? That's what I'm trying to do. I take a picture on my iPhone then it automatically goes to iPhoto. After that, I drag the file onto the desktop and change the name to trolley.jpg. I then click on the camera icon and press browse. Then I click on the file and press upload. Every time it says "timed out".

Anyway, I use my iPhone to take photos and I transfer them to my Mac and have tried over and over again to post my photo and it just says "timed out". Can you help me?

You might try uploading said photos to an online service such as Photobucket. Then, grab the IMG link from that website and post it here. That's what I do.

kovacs, I am into old trains but digital media is a mystery to me. That said, this is one of the easier sites to upload photos to. In the reply window, click on 'Add Attachment" That will take you to another window where you can browse for your image file. Double -click your image file, then click "upload File" Once it's uploaded, click "click here to add this image to your message" That should do it. Occasionally even if you follow the right steps, it will time out on you. Keep trying.
The disclaimer to all this is that I use Windows, have never had experience with a Mac. But, the technique SPSF outlined with an image service like Photobucket should fix your issue if all else fails. Good luck!

Maybe the server is screwed up today. But I still have hope because it might be better tomorrow.

I don't know the resolution of your camera, but typically digital pictures are pretty big. For example, my camera shoots pictures 4000 pixels wide by 3000 high. The pictures you see on the screen, here, are only about 800 pixels wide. I don't know how to resize pictures on a Mac, but if you can find out, there'll be way less data to transfer and it will usually transfer before it times out.

Just an FYI; I upload images directly from my iPhone all the time. I crop them as tightly as possible to avoid the timeout problem. Sometimes it still times out but like Buss said, I keep trying until it works. Aamof, I'm using my phone right now.

I thought you couldn't upload photos from an iPhone. Apparently so. Anyway, I prefer typing and uploading on my computer but thanks for telling me you could upload photos on an iPhone.

I've never tried cropping them. Maybe that's the solution. Otherwise, I've had little success. I think early on, I was able to upload a few. I'll have to try again.

My problem was that the pictures were too big and I had to make them smaller in order for it to work. By the way, I finally got the pictures up on the page about the trolley I was talking about so now you can see what I was talking about.

I can probably count on one hand the number of images I haven't uploaded with my iPhone!

As this thread started out, kovacste000 stated that the interest started from an Athearn train set. Not sure if that is significant, but I remember some posts of "Sets" that Athearn had in its early years. If that is true of early Athearn "sets" back then, I would say that this thread has come full circle since Athearn presently sells "sets" these days. Anybody wanna piggy-back some info' about early Athearn sets?
Kovacste000, would you mind describing your set you started with 10 years ago? I believe it's worth noting such an item.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Here's a picture of the box and the rolling stock that came with the set.

Same number, of course, because the real CSX only ever had two (#116 and #119), and they were used for their executive train before they picked up a couple of F40s when Amtrak dumped them.

I believe Santa Fe had some of those too. I might be wrong though.
