This is a Walthers GP9m that I modified by adding pilot boxes for the air hoses, a divided windshield, free standing grab irons and flush numberboards.

* Yep ken. It took a while. To let you know the average asking price on many is around $70. That is why I didn't get one for so long. You know a dealer wont pay half of that. frank

that isn't the right tender on the Challenger Plus that Ken Kidder looks like a track inspection train

The reason for the steam dummy was to disguise the the early inner city steam locomotives so the did not scare the horses. They were not inspection locomotives.
I know the tender is not correct. I already have the correct tender here:

Hey Jerry, I really like the NC & StL set. I have had the decals set for some time; can you advise on the blue color you chose and provide any tips you may have in doing this job?
Maybe I should have started another thread?

Thanks Randy - there were a couple different ways to do this paint scheme. The Microscale decal set I had (87-901) included the lower gray panels and the curved front that goes up around the headlight. I was a little skeptical about how that would turn out, so I decided to paint the gray as well as the blue. I used Badger Modelflex Gloss Blue (16-110) and S.P. Letter Gray (16-39). I got that info off a NC&StL modeling website and I was happy with the choices. I sprayed the shell with the gray first, then masked for the blue. I used the decal in the Microscale set for a template in making the curved mask for the front section. Was not perfect, but I used a fine brush to touch up afterward. Then I masked for the top black area, which is pointed on the A unit, and used Engine Black for that. After it was all painted and decaled, I gave it a shot of dullcote to take the shine off... BTW, the road numbers for both units (besides the number board on the A unit) are TINY yellow numbers that go in the upper right side corner of each unit, just below the grilles. You could leave them off and only you would know

Here is my LOTW, the latest addition to my collection. This thing was found at a swap meet and I think I got a good bargain on it. It is near pristine condition and appears to have seen very little use. Still had original box!

Too bad Santa Fe couldn't say the same. Those were (are) beautiful locomotives. They were gone by the time I hired out in 1964.
