I can't leave the Super Chief alone Watching it run, with the bright white light shining from the rear brighter than the locomotive headlight, I thought I'd work on that. I had a 3 volt red LED hooked to a watch battery and pushbutton switch, I mounted the pushbutton through a small hole drilled through the door on the opposite end, and attached the LED to the inside of the clear lens at the top. The picture doesn't show the way it looks - to the eye it glows a nice visible but not overpowering red. And with the interior bulb turned toward the middle of the car, it toned down the 'headlight look' too. I'd like to put a Super Chief logo over that large clear lens.

Looks great! The watch battery/switch is certainly a clever way of eliminating the flicker. The fact that it's red is also neat.
Years ago I found some red-ish coloured cellophane that I taped over the rear lens on a Tyco observation car. Not quite the same as what you did, but still a nice look.

Thanks, I was kinda surprised myself with how well the photo turned out. I do wish I'd noticed how much of the frame that tree was taking up though...
