While wandering the thrift store tonight looking for stuff, I ran across a section with nothing but old ironing boards. Which got me to thinking....hmm. I work at a hobby shop with limited space, and having an easily deployed "shelf" which can then be put away quickly....hmm. I also thought about the times I've been at my club's modular train shows, and there's limited table space, so if I brought my own flip-up surface, that would be useful, AND you can position it so it's a foot off the ground, or nearly 4. I looked through them, and then spotted a "space saver", a much shorter version than the normal 4 foot long boards, it's about 3 foot. Hmm...so I bought that one for $10. The narrow foot-print doesn't make it very stable, though, so I may wind up adding some extra legs, don't know yet. Will try it out at work first, to see how it functions, if the boss will let me, then go from there. ON a side note, found a bag of misc. battery holders along with two robotic? motor units, with reduction gearing. All for 99 cents. with the 30% discount, the total was $8.34. Not bad! No model trains or good diecast vehicles at this thrift store, but the ironing board idea and the robotic parts were good scores. Any other ideas for the ironing board/shelf concept?

Portable bench work for a little shelf-style switching layout (timesaver, perhaps).
That's kind of where I thought you were going until I read the posting.

I thought about that AFTER I posted, actually. Nice idea, actually. A small point-to-point switching portable layout. Now, where's that Thumbs Up icon to Like this? LOL!
