For the life of me I can 't tell or understand why this went for $170.00. It looks to me like a regular A-B-A unit but am I missing something?

Looks like 3 bidders decided to duke it out. Nothing special about it.
Also...It is entirely plausible that the 0 feedback bidder could have possibly been a shill to make sure the auction didn't bottom out. That was rampant a few years ago, not so much now (that I've seen).

The pipe unloader can be pricey in the original box. There's a couple of $10 cars, the crane set should be good for $20, but the rest of it including the engines are stuff I could carry for 10 years and not be able to give away, like that Santa Fe boxcar. I price them at $4 in the box.
Tyco on eBay makes no damn sense though, for a while complete, opened operating hopper sets were bringing $40. I found a sealed one. You'd think it would easily bring $40, too. A lot of sealed stuff goes high. Months later I still have the stupid thing, I think I'm going to open it and give the car to a local guy that collects them. I've had some offers, but one wanted free shipping, which the listing is not set up for, and another offered pennies on the dollar for it.
I just posted a bunch of other Tyco accessories based on what I see others selling for and some aren't even drawing hits, even though they've gone for good money in the past. A sealed piggyback unloader set, for instance. You'd think that on a Buy or Best Offer I wouldn't even have to have it posted a week, but no one even seems to be looking at it.
I can't figure it out, I don't understand why I can't sell my stuff for the same price as everyone else is - and I'm not talking top dollar on most of it, just the average of what they've been bringing. I'm top rated with great feedback and my stuff should be getting a boost in searches. But it sits there.

That 0 feedback bidder is an obvious shill bidder. He incremented his bids by $2 until he was MATCHED with the current high bidder...then stopped bidding, even though he was still technically not winning. I hope someone else caught that and reported it...

Shills are just about impossible to prove now because of hidden ID's.
If the same ID bids repeatedly on many of that seller's items, then eBay may do something.
Personally I'd have some fun with it and cancel my bids on an item and see what happens. That may be why some things which sell, turn up again shortly after, the shiller out-shilled himself and bought his own item. (like the Pizza Hut and Burger King listing).
