You beat me to it today ben Some nice locos there, and I am envious of your Lionel camera loco - I wants one!
My LOTW is a pair of Athearn FP-45s that I modified to represent Amtrak Phase I SDP40Fs - changed the front pilot configuration as well as the number and position of side doors, added rear side vents, and redid the decals with a Microscale set. Both are powered

Mehano SD40 in Price Chopper promotional Year 2000 Millenial paint scheme. I think it's the same one they use for the President's Choice early sets. Picked up the whole set for $20. Mehano must have had a decent earner with these promotional sets, as there is another SD on Ebay right now with another supermarket chain's name on it.

Today is all-Lionel HO day for OTW's for me. Starting off, here's a metal HO Lionel steam engine, #6096, that I picked up at a big indoor Flea market. Missing a few parts, but the guy says it runs. So this is my second Lionel Steam engine.

Here is that other grocery store chain that you referenced earlier. I have actually worked for SnS for over 25 years so I picked up two of these units. They are good runners and I think they have a definite Frisco vibe about them.

I ran #30 on the Keokuk Junction when they leased it from C&IM in the early 1990's. It wasn't a bad locomotive, but made me miss our ol' S-2, #20. Keokuk was an experience in 1:1 model railroading, although I had most of my current S scale roster packed away at the time, and tyco was way over the horizon.

Yeah it DOES look like a Frisco unit but what says its not is the PRR logo on the nose Did it have any freight cars with it? Cause I got a IGA set with different brand names on them

Look closely at the second unit, I did put Frisco decals over the original PRR heralds. These sets were sold at the Shop n Save chain that hails from Pennsylvania as opposed to the chain in the Midwest. The sets came with cars and a matching caboose. They followed up with another SnS set that had a Pennsy decorated GG-1 as motive power! The cars consisted mostly of food related road-names and I believe one of the sets had a Coke-a-Cola tank car that has become sought after.

Wow Bob, that's exciting to hear that you had the chance to run the prototype #30. At one time I belonged to the SCCA and the Keokuk Junction RR had a standing offer that you could run your speeder there if you came equipped to clear away brush on one of their branch lines. I believe one of the big shots on the line was also a member of the SCCA.

That would have been Rich Taylor. He waas also a trolley car afficiondo and ran trolleys at the aMt. Pleasant, IA, Old Thresherman's reunion. they had a narrow gauge railroad circumventing the grounds, and the trolley line circumventing the campgrounds. In 1993, the dam at Keokuk still used an electric line car to run back and forth across the dam, and during the first of several "100 year floods" of the past 20 years, they used one of his trolleys to transport people across the Mississippi River when the highway was flooded. H did, as you say, permitted the motorcar people to run on the KJ in return for brush cutting detail

What an interesting tidbit about the electric operation on the dam, I was unaware of that little bit of history. I did recall after this last post that the organization that I mentioned should have been the MCCA and not the SCCA as stated. I have briefly belonged to both and I got them confused. The MCCA is the Motor Car Collectors Association and is involved with prototype track speeders. The SCCA is the Sports Car Club of America and sponsors road course and Rally events for automobiles, sorry for the confusion.

I have the SnS Millennium comet (1999) and Pride of Pennsylvania (2000) sets as well as the Smart Shopper set from 1998. I don't remember which had the Coke-a-Cola car. I will have to locate the sets to see. (they're somewhere around here) I have only opened the Millennium comet set and ran it around the Christmas tree that year, the other sets are unopened.

Hey guys. Its been a while since I last posted on here but I think it was worth the wait. After four long years in the making, I've finally received my pair of Rapido FP9A's. Lettered for the Conway Scenic Railroad as numbers 6505 and 6516.
What is so special about these units is that Rapido Trains actually used these two units as templates for their GMD FP9a production series. What is even cooler is that Rapido also used engine 6505 to make the Tsunami Sound Decoders for all of their FP9's! This is about as accurate a model as I will ever get without having to paint, detail and custom sound myself.
I installed the ditch lights on 6505 (which work!) but not yet on 6516. You can also see that the two engines have been given road number specific details (different air pipes on the roofs). Hope you guys enjoy these as much as I am!

Thanks! They certainly look good pulling a train together! If you like the FP9's, check out Rapido Train's website www.rapidotrains.com. They have many paint scheme variations of these highly detailed units (which run perfectly). The Conway Scenic units were done as a thank you to the Conway Scenic Railroad for letting them use the engines. There are only 30 of them!

I remember seeing Rapido's FP9 offerings a few months back. They're amazingly accurate and great to look at, I'd just have no use for one on any of my current layouts... That's really cool you have 2 of only 30 made!

My LOTW:
A mostly scratchbuilt 4-6-0 brass steam locomotive. The pilot deck is the only part that I recognize as being Varney. The drivers and motor are also not hand made. The rest appears to be, including the loco frame:

Thanks guys, The boiler and cab are formed from sheet metal from an old paint thinner can. The overlays with the rivet details are aluminum beer cans glued over the sheet metal.

I hadn't thought of aluminum because it's hard to solder, but I guess that's not an obstacle if you glue it.
That was nice work recovering the tinplate from the paint thinner can without creasing it.

Thanks everyone. The metal from the thinner can was pretty easy to work with and solders nicely if it is cleaned and fluxed. I started that project about 20 years ago (long before I had any exotic tools to work with) . This is an O scale scratch build using the same metal (and thread spools for wheels).

Thanks Barry. Yes they are powered. The K4 has a Pittman DC70 and the O scale L1 has an old printer motor and gears to power it.
