What size of hand rail brass wire will work with the Cal Scale #604 hand rail stanchions? Here it is:

Justin, I'd go with at least .015 thousands, nothing less, and nothing over .025 thousands..... Both measurements are in "Inch". Steel music wire is the best, if let unpainted.....and is strong for handling purposes.....

Those look just like the ones that came in Bowser and MDC kits. Those took .020" wire.

.015" brass rod is available from K&S. The local hobby shops should have it. That's about the only scratchbuilding supplies they carry, anymore, it seems

Tyco and Athearn use.0225 Stainless polished music wire, There is a metal shop by me that can make it but they wanted $20 for a 3' foot section.... UGH!!!
I searched the Net for a while trying to find this stuff but in the end it wasn't worth the cost to buy it.

I haven't tried this, myself, but it seems you could get music wire from, or through, a piano repairman.
