Interesting stuff! I'd go broke before one lap around! Hard to find the good vintage stuff in Florida.

Dan, Your looking for 1860 freight cars by Mantua. I have had the Mantua Central of Georgia locomotive for 4 or 5 years already. I got it from Sean. I am looking for the cars to go with it. These horse cars, you've seen, are Central of Georgia. So they can't go. Do you have any of the older ones. I may have a few extra of them. frank

** Good morning everyone! And the train shows go on. Yesterday I went to the Greenberg show in Edison NJ. You have good days and you have bad ones. Yesterday was a bad one. I am hoping for a good one today. So very many people were their just to look and see. And they did. Here at the end of the month, us retried people are running short of cash. Still I spent more than three time what I had sold. I am good for the economy but the economy wasn't good for me.
* I meet Peat there and had a long conservation. He is the happiest he has been in a long time. Nice to see him again. I did meet a old friend Dave a Fleischmann collector and seller. Also and I forgot his name the fellow wo bought the Hobbytown of Boston, and business. Charlie had a very large collection of original items he sold to this man. He said the purchases he made yesterday for more for display of original stuff at his office. I'll try to get his name from Charlie today.
** Yesterdays finds ! Fleischmann US type Pacific, Gilbert boxed PRR 0-6-0 #433. Tyco/Mantua Old time Gondola BPS&D, Athearn COOP all metal tank car in good condition, Building - A small news stand, by Pola, 4 boiler fronts for Gilbert 0-6-0's, Bachmann old time 8 wheel passenger cars 6 each, one for parts missing a roof. Bachmann old time 4 wheel passenger cars 2 each.
* Will go back again today. There were so very many people there yesterday. The only cash I will bring is for making change. I did see a 4 car Marx Bowed set. Powered by a NYC 0-4-0t. It is bowed and with track. All in very good shape. Maybe today ?

I picked up this box of Casey Jones parts from a Bowser fire sale for a good price. There are enough parts for two complete mechanisms. I'm hoping to put together at least one good SP 4-6-0 out of this.

It KILLED ME to leave the 7up plant and an IHC NP passenger set, but I promised I would not spend more than $100 bucks.

Went to the Schlutz Space Coast train show last Saturday, picked up a few things. Very nice people, and some good deals, despite it being fairly "small" (I've heard that it's usually a bit bigger, but competing shows happening at the same time had it end up smaller this time). I would supply pictures but the workbench is so cluttered and I've already done work to a lot of them. A much more boring text list
Trains Miniature Double Sheathed Wooden Boxcar - Lettered Trinity Valley Railroad, knuckle couplers, - $5 (I've now given it a basecoat of BAR Blue awaiting decals for my freelance) Outside Braced Boxcar - Lettered Southern Pacific, kit, horn hook couplers, - $7
AHM RS-2 - Lettered Santa Fe, horn hook couplers - $10 Livestock Car - Lettered New York Central, no trucks, no couplers - $1 (Now been heavily cut up and damaged to become a scrap car)
Athearn Flatcar (40 foot?) - Lettered Pennsylvania Railroad, horn hook couplers - $1 (Missing a coupler and rusty axles )
Tyco/Mantua B Unit - Lettered Santa Fe, shell only - $1 (On the workbench to be turned into a scrap piece, already had some fans/radiator parts cut out.) F Unit - Lettered Pennsylvania Railroad, shell only - $1 (Now had cab and back door cut off for scrap purposes) MofW thing (Like a flatcar with a bobber caboose on one end and some things that look like they'd hold wheels on the other end) - Unlettered, no couplers, no trucks, one body mounted coupler box - $Forget how much I paid Plymouth Yard Diesel - Lettered Westinghouse, broken couplers - $10 (Now on the workbench to get knuckle couplers, and am now trying to get it working... grrrr)
Rivarrossi 0-6-0? Locomotive - x2, unlettered, shell only - $5 with a bunch of other junk pieces (One has had the cab seperated from the boiler for scrap purposes) 0-4-0 Locomotive - Kinda run, unbalanced - $5 with a bunch of other junk pieces (I broke it trying to screw with it. Now painted as WKN 4)
Penn Line GG1 - Shell only, unpainted - $5 with a bunch of other junk pieces (Never realized how massive this thing is. It's monstrous!)
Wood Kits Colorado And Southern Refrigerated Boxcar - No trucks, 1 knuckle coupler, missing ice hatch parts on top, missing underframe detail - $Forgot how much I paid North Western Refrigerator Line Company - Sprung trucks, knuckle couplers (1 broken), missing two ice hatch parts - $Forgot how much I paid MofW Bunk Cars - x3, lettered for freelance "Bedrock And Bedlam", knuckle couplers - $6 total (One has been scavenged for parts and will become a yard office, one will be repainted, and one will be kept as is)
Revell MofW Bunk Car - Unlettered, horn hook couplers, sprung trucks - $5 (Now base coated for my freelance RR)
Unknown 0-6-0? Steam Locomotive- Shell only, lettered "N-W RR" (freelance?) - $5 with a bunch of other junk bits Large locomotive tender - Shell only, metal casting, unpainted - $5 with a bunch of other junk bits 3-dome tank car - 1 knuckle coupler, lettered Shell Oil Company - $3
sim-al2 Also since they cut track maintaince the trains had huge trouble making over the railroad by the end 純那 yeah They did a Rock Island volountarily

Nice grabs. What did you do to revive the Amtrak switcher motor, AF Kid? That Nor'Easter is a pretty neat set. It is also like the one that crashed out of Philadelphia.

I used a motor from the AHM C-Liner. It is almost the same with the exception of the base on the motor which I swiped out from the broken motor.

Well, you could do the magnet upgrade. That made my Clementine's motor run nicely and would presumably do the same for my E7 once I finally manage to get the motor reassembled with the brushes in.
Speaking of 630s, I scored this subcontracted-to-Mehano Tyco Santa Fe 630 at the thrift store. For $2.98
I'm tempted to relivery it. Possibly for my fantasy railroad, possibly for Union Pacific, possibly into ATSF Cigar Band. If I leave it in its present livery, I am definitely going to create some masks to repaint the black and yellow bordering on.

I don't think its that collectable. An actual Tyco 630 would easily bring more money. I see those Mehano 630s on eBay all the time.

Unless you are offering to buy it for enough money that I could get a UP one in its stead, then you can shut up right now AF Kid. I didn't buy this as a tradeable collectors item, I bought it to add to my diesel fleet and pull trains with. And based on what kristofer said it's not nearly the piece you make it out to be anyway.

Today I got a TYCO 1960 catalog. This is one of the few years that TYCO used the Gilbert passenger cars. I have a Canadian Pacific set. It is the only one not shown in the catalog. frank

Frank, Tyco only used Gilbert passenger shells in 1959. They were produced in B&O and Canadian Pacific. The New Haven set in 1960 catalog was a factory mock up for the catalog shoot. There are no known examples of long New Haven passenger cars.

My wife took a friend out to lunch today for her friend's birthday. She came home with a box from her friends husband. It was toy trains he had as a kid and no longer wanted them. My lucky day!

I did clean them up. I was surprised that the my paper towel turned blue when I used a bit of alcohol to clean the engine. But was really surprised when the red started to come off of the boxcar when I just used warm water. Gotta be careful with this old stuff. The engine had the unpowered truck backwards and the mu-2 (?) truc was kind of dirty and would not pick up from the axles. A bit of magic liquid fixed that and it runs good now. I just need some traction O-rings for the wheels as the originals are worn off. Now, I just need to figure out what I want to do with it. BTW, I have no idea how much of the HO slot car stuff is any good or not. Regards, Vic B.

I think you could do well with the HO slot cars on eBay. That Superbird looks to be in good shape. I had one when I was a kiid. I think it came out in 1970ish.

Alcohol is a good paint stripper, so I'd keep it away from anything painted unless you want to remove it. That's funny about the water though, I have never heard of plain water removing paint from a car. Must be heavily oxidized (?)

Hi Pete. It is always nice to see you at the train shows also. We Gabbed a lot on Saturday. I liked that. Hope to see you again soon. Frank.
* Back from my Sunday at Summerset NJ's train show. Got some more stuff.
* First from our tables my friend Charlie had a pair on old Mantua brass and cast 4 window cabooses with a offset copula. Had is the key word here . Now I have them. * From a Pennsy dealer we know well for years I got a Athearn B&O GP7, a Penn Line PRR F7A, two old Athearn GP35 drives, a Mantua MKT stock car, A Varney metal Swift reefer, and a Northern Pacific reefer by Athearn. A nice one for it is all brass with a wood floor. The last thing is a Marx UP F3A. Frank

AF Kid you paid $25 for two plastic IHC shells? I paid less than $5 for an all-metal GG1 shell back in December. If you need it I'd be happy to send it off for a small trade, I initially bought it for a scrapyard piece, but no way in heck would I cut it up.
sim-al2 Also since they cut track maintaince the trains had huge trouble making over the railroad by the end 純那 yeah They did a Rock Island volountarily

My apologies, I didn't know you already had an IHC chassis to go with it.

AF kid, $230, OUCH!!! About 4 years ago I wanted one but the prices were high on ebay. I just kept looking every night for a month and found one that ended around 230 in the morning. I struck with minutes left and won it for $91 bucks. The only thing it was missing was a DVD. I very rarely take it out the box, it's just too fast on the track....
