RP Model is correct, Buss. Each container clearly is co-labeled for New York Central- The LCL Corporation Refrigeration Container.

Whoa RP! That's awesome! How much did that NP shark set you back, if you don't mind my asking?

Here is some stuff I just picked up off of "Letgo", that copycat Craigslist. Lionel prewar, American Flyer postwar, and some old Mantua. How much did all of this cost, you ask? 50 dineros. That's it. Their all in decent shape. With a little bit of TLC, the Lionel and AF stuff will be running, but I plan on divesting myself of the Mantua. Let me know if you want them, and shoot me an offer! I have know clue what the Mantua is worth.

chevelle454, looks like you found a great deal on some old stuff!!! Congratulations! Thank you for complementing my Day 1 finds!!

- The NP Shark was $50.00, which while that is typically "exhorbitant" to me, it is really a good deal taking into consideration that the only NP Shark I've ever seen on Ebay sold for 4-500 dollars.

- Microbusss, all of the Tyco cars appear to be the same model, despite their different colors (yep, I dug through the box ) The only other vehicle that's not a Tyco car like the rest is a Tyco red Kenworth cabover truck. If anyone would like a few cars to complete their autoloader, I'd be willing to sell/trade a few!

RP, going to have to start calling you the "Shark Master." You snagged
a great bunch of pieces there, looks like Conrail is going to be a major
player in the EVRR scene. Thanks very much for bagging me those
CP pieces. I have never seen a CP in yellow!

LOL, yes, I do like the name "Shark Master," Chops!! Has a nice ring to it! I truly did not expect to find the NP Sharknose at the Train Show -- I still am stunned!

Yep, thanks to the trade with DanMacK, the CR F7A represents yet another railroad to serve on the EVRR. I have already placed the Tyco "Red Box" Pennsy F9 A & B pair into operation on the layout -- they are currently hauling a load of 8 cars!

Also, you're quite welcome! -- I was honored to find those CP box cars for you.

WooWoo! Mega scores! Love the fire hydrants, who has THAT? You got the matching C&O caboose, but my money is on those Burlington F7's. Never
seen those before, ever. Do they have pancake or MU2 motoring? The
CP green box is curious, I've always associated the pine tree local with
Maine Central, not CP.

Microbusss - Yeah, I plan on using the one pump which is intact, as well as the stacked oil cans, in my "Mobile Gas" pump service area...on the Ephrata Valley Railroad. Good luck on finding the Texaco gas station!

Chops- Thanks! Yes, I am astounded at all of the stuffs I found at the train show!!! The fire hydrants are plain metal, which I plan on painting in the Spring before installing on the layout. The Varney Burlington F3's are in excellent condition for their age, but the powered A-unit is a power hog! It takes full juice for the Varney F3's to move at a steady/moderate pace - but still, the old fashioned "gear" sound as it gnashes at the rails intrigues me. I did have to pop-up the shell to fix the headlight, and it appears that the powered F3 has a MU-style motor.

Hi Jeff, Ths two red ball cars were being sold by a dealer who had the complete collection a one person. There was a lot of nice old trains. Those two cars cost me $3 each. As always some of my photos of dealers tables didn't come out well. I guess it is from all the activity around me when I take the photos. I post them here.

Fun fact! That purple Renuzit Dry Cleaning boxcar is the very first known promotional car in all of HO scale, made by Lehigh Models sometime in the 1940s. Somewhere packed away in a box I have a perfectly preserved example with its original cast trucks and Baker couplers.

Okay, so here goes. I'm over a week late with this, but here's my picks from the Greenberg's show at Oaks.

Not pictured: one of those new ScaleTrains 50' boxcar "kits" in MN&S blue. It's already on our club layout. I refuse to regard this as a kit--it's literally a one piece shell and a one piece frame. All you do is screw on the trucks and couplers. Even the weight and brakewheel are preinstalled. A bit insulting to call this a "kit" for those of us who actually like building things.

Clockwise:
- a brand new Binkley Models ARA boxcar kit from the 50s, SP overnights. Found in a junk bin, vendor had no idea what it was. This is my 3rd Binkley boxcar (the others NH and Rutland), and the first one I've ever seen unbuilt in its box.

- Athearn Railbox, Escanaba & Lake Superior, custom run from Bev-Bel. I love shortline per-diem boxcars and this is a roadname I've been trying to get ever since my trip to the Upper Peninsula a few years ago.

- one of the Varney 40' metal boxcar kits as reissued by Bowser briefly in 1983. Again the only one I've yet seen. I believe the story here is that when Bowser acquired the remaining dies for Varney metal steam locomotive kits in the 80s, they unintentionally wound up with all the dies for this kit, long since discontinued. They decided to try making a few to see if they would sell, but predictably there was no market in the 80s for a kit designed just after WWII, and not many went anywhere. A friend of mine actually has the original sample car from Bowser. The crazy part is that I actually was able to tour the Bowser factory a few months ago, and when I wandered off to explore the giant stacks of parts boxes and drawers, to my great surprise, I found all the parts for these boxcars still on hand--they could release more at any time if we ask them to!

- Roundhouse 50' tank car, UTLX, unbuilt. These sold so well when released that this is only the second one I've been able to get at a show. My friend who went to the show with me has a dozen, and he screwed them all up so badly that he hates the kit with a passion. When he saw me looking at this, he implored me not to buy it, so I got it just to prove him wrong by building it without breaking any parts.

- Quality Craft 60' Auto Parts boxcar. This kit was intended to build a Southern car but somebody painted it GN, and it looks pretty nice. A little old lady sold me this for $2 with no idea what it was… or how to store it, considering I had to spend several hours last night slicing off damaged wood details and recreating them with stripwood. It’s going to be worth it when I’m done though.

- first-generation Varney stock car. Been trying to get one of these for awhile but they always seem to have warped sides, since they were made from a very early type of plastic that doesn’t age well. This one’s totally intact.

- a stock car that I bought for $1 just because I can’t identify it. Cast metal sides, frame and ends, wood floor and roof. It is not Varney, Red Ball, Ulrich, Roundhouse, Globe, or any other early stock car I’m familiar with. Please help.

- Ambroid ACL phosphate car. Decal placement is off so I’m looking for new decals for it. Looking at this car it really seems as though someone found the kit without all the metal pieces, and added their own while building it—none of the castings, ladders, etc. are original. It’s got really nice Lindberg trucks though, which are definitely staying on it.

- Central Valley Old-Timers boxcar, PRR. Found among a box of plastic freight cars $2 each. Missing a door, roofwalk, etc., but I have spares on hand. Love these cars.

- Train-Miniature wood sheathed boxcar, Michigan Central. Roadname I didn’t have.

- Red Ball DL&W boxcar. I had yet to acquire a complete Red Ball boxcar even though I have tons of parts for them. Door and roofwalk will be replaced, all the wooden roof ribs will be sliced off and replaced with a set of cast metal ribs as were originally supplied with the kit.

- Silver Streak Frisco boxcar. I recently found the later tan version of “Frisco Fast Freight” paint on an Athearn 40’ box, and wanted an example of the original script-letter paint scheme to go with it.

- Athearn 50’ ribbed box, PRR. These are very close to X58s and as such are way, way harder to get than a lot of the roadnames offered on this car, since they were all that was available for people to model X58’s until Tangent released a (really expensive) model a few years ago.

- Athearn Railbox, Ma & Pa. Another per-diem roadname I didn’t have yet. This is the last of three variations of this car offered by Bev-Bel.

- Athearn 50’ PD box, IC. This is from one of the last blue-box releases, as it has end lettering. Didn’t have this kit in this road and it was only a couple bucks, so why not.

- Athearn 50’ gondola, RDG. I’ve been wanting this car for over a year and couldn’t find it till now. Reading green makes any car look good.

- Athearn 40’ box, custom painted Rutland. When I was a kid I wanted to get a 40’ boxcar in every single roadname ever, and I’m still trying. Latest additions are this, Ann Arbor, and QNS&L.

- Four prewar rarities. Outside of their very popular heavyweight passenger car kits, early Walthers products are pretty interesting. They offered a line of freight car kits as early as 1937, but relatively few survive and not a great deal of information on them seems to exist. Considering they’re the largest player in the HO industry today, as well as the oldest, this always surprised me. I had only found three so far before this show: a Milwaukee Road 50’ outside-braced auto boxcar and a Canadian Pacific 40’ composite gondola, both perfectly preserved, and a 40’ OB boxcar painted for somebody’s home road. I spotted these four additional cars all together in a $3-apiece junk bin just as I was walking out of the show, and totally freaked out.
The Virginian ribbed hopper and Reading offset-side twin are both made from embossed card with a metal frame. The Reading car is fairly heavily damaged but I believe it will be restorable.
The Conoco tank car is intact except t/c, but I’m torn between repainting it or leaving the original lettering, as damaged as it is. I actually found spare dome castings for this kit some years ago and never saw the actual car till now.
The MDT reefer is not marked Walthers on the frame, but judging from its construction it is one of their products. Detail on this car is very impressive for the era.

An early offering from Kalmbach publishing. This contains loads of diagrams for scratchbuilding all manner of locos and cars of the era. Found for $5 at the same table as the blue GN boxcar.

By far the greatest thing I found there. For more info, check out the LOTW thread! (haven’t posted it there yet but please stand by. In the meantime, I challenge everyone to guess what this is!)

Toptrain, congrats on some awesome finds at the Allentown Mall train show -- especially that Tyco Talgo train set!!

PRR4800, all of your finds from the Greenberg's Train Show are ASTOUNDING -- congratulations!!!! Nice work on gleaning more vintage pieces for your collection!!

That locomotive.....is it some sort of a metal switcher....I'll guess an old manufacturer....Varney?? I truly am clueless...

It "looks" like one or the Walthers HH660's. Awesome finds. I'm loving the older HO stuff.

Question, are you planning a "vintage" layout to run these on?

Fabulous finds! That switcher is out of my wheelhouse, to be sure, but
I'll put money on the Shark Master's bet.

Interesting bit about the Renuzit car. I've often wondered when this
went from concept to production.

At our Club, there is this reefer labeled for a salsa brand, in the
promotional style. The car is probably scratch, and the trucks
appear to be sand casted, judging by the coarse surface.
The labeling was achieved by soaking the salsa can label for
a week in water until the very thin film of the image separated.
Then, it was floated onto the car body side until it matched the
oblong configuration perfectly and was lifted out of the water
and carefully dried and sealed.

Looks like you got the pick of the litter, as always, Top Train. Are those
Marklin caternary towers? Me and another guy are trying to get the
Club to allow us to put some electrification for our juice jacks.
Would you be interested in selling? I know for some collectors,
"sell" is a four letter word, but thought I'd ask...

* Thank you, Jeff and Bob. That was a very big place with 3 very large attached buildings. If you look most of what I got was 1 to 3 dollars. The DL 109 was 35. The 2-8-2T WAS 50. tHE LINDSAY WAS 10. The B&O sharks were 15. The Gilbert was 25. There were many good deals but on things, I didn't want. Lots of buildings. Those poles I have are plastic so really would not be used for overhead wiring as is. I also want to do a section of track for electrics. That is why I got them. There were a lot of Athearn and Atlas diesel. I was tempted to get some Atlas by ROCO diesels, but I didn't. They had a big white elephant table which was really 20 tables at least. That's where I got the ROCO 2-8-2t. I also got 3 books i didn't list. Railways, The Pioneer Years, by Fletcher and Taylor.. The Jersey Central Story, B Carleton. Railroad Avenue by Hubbard.

oldtimer,

I agree that many sellers don't search for existing auctions to find out what the going rate is. I contacted one seller and mentioned that I could buy an entire set for the price of his one engine. What did he do? He blocked me from bidding on any future auctions! Good riddance.

Someone mentioned that Allentown is not a good show. Has anyone been to the following shows, and if so, what are the pros and cons? Keep in mind that HO is the only scale that I have and I tend to go after Gilbert and Lionel, followed by Tyco.

Feb 10-11, 2018 ~ York, PA Expo Center
Feb 17-18, 2018 ~ Chase Center on the Riverfront, Wilmington DE
Date TBA ~ Greater Philadelphia Expo Center

Oaks, PA has passed, but it looks like RP struck gold. I'll keep an eye out for an upcoming show here.

Many thanks!

Nice finds, Brian!! Congratulations! The Tyco STP tanker is also my fav., microbusss.

I'm not sure about any of the other train shows, but Greenberg's Great Train & Toy Show at the Oaks Expo Center was a BLAST! I would encourage anyone in the area to attend that show the next time it occurs.
