While going through my project drawers I ran across this engine again, I'd forgotten about it, but I've a collection of E7A shells now, and can use this chassis. After doing some research, it SEEMS to be a Proto 2000 with a very early Tsunami sound equipped decoder. Problem is, they've discontinued the older versions, and this is even older. I've found a DSD 150LC listed at the Soundtraxx website, but this one says DSD 100LL. I can find no documentation online about it, I would like to know how to wire it up, as the previous owner butchered the wiring, so I have no idea of the pin-out, as the design is different than the documented DS 150 they still have some documentation on. If anyone has either 1) a pinout of this decoder to help me, or 2) advise whether this is a total POC and I should just not bother with it, I'd appreciate some help here.

I found some online old threads about the real early Tsunami's having issues with hum, not sure if about the engine itself or the sound system, some worked ok, others didn't. I can always use this chassis with a normal decoder, but since it's "free" ( ie,semi-intact and here ), I will spend the labor necessary to resurrect it, or try, just because. It currently has no speakers with it ( I have small speakers I can use anyway ), just want a shot at seeing if it is any good, or whether to just use it as a DC mule for now. With the wiring chopped up, it doesn't even run on DC, so I will have to remove the decoder and wire it up direct I guess to use it until I find a wiring diagram for this old version. Thanks for any help here.

Well, decided to de-decoder this engine, I carefully removed the unnecessary wiring and circuit board, and hooked up power to the truck leads - nothing. Hmm. It hummed, but didn't move. After a bit of fussing, I unconnected the power wires to the trucks, and ran power right to the motor, and turned it on it's side. It shuddered, then threw off the rear driveshaft and started running. HMMMM. Looks like the rear axle truck is binding up somewhere. I took it apart, poked and prodded, it seemed to turn over fine - I think the driveshaft itself was binding, one clamping finger is now ( or was before ) bent outwards, so it won't stay on the ball-joint anymore. Guess I need to order some spare driveshafts now. Runs fine on the front power truck. Nothing wrong with the motor itself, thankfully, it's a nice dual flywheel unit. So should be a decent DC runner once I get some parts. I also noticed several of the axle covers were missing, tiny things, so a pack of those I'll order as well. I also worked on some other HO engines, a Bachmann F7 with pancake ( axle gears are cracking, it's hopping down the track, after fixing a broken solder connection to the truck ). Also played with a Mantua Trolley ( running now ), and another one, green and yellow #304, took a bit to free up the pancake motor, but it's finally running too. Making some headway getting motive power re-activated again! My workbench is also totally reorganized, shelving rearranged for more efficiency, power tools accessible now, tools in bins easily at hand, and some junk thrown out. all in all a good day at the hobby bench, very pleased with my efforts to clean out and reorganize so I can work at the bench more easily than before. Ordered some drive belts for my Unimat DB200 combo drill press / lathe, hope to get that going again after 10? years. Trying to make progress finally. Slowly coming together.
