I'll kick off the thread with the smallest loco I have, Bachmann Spectrum switcher. This is the early one with a motor in each truck.

Switching to electrics, I dug out this Euro engine, one I purchased when I was either a teen or early 20's. I think this was when I finally had control of my grass-cutting money from my father, and I "splurged" on buying this "expensive" engine, $34 at the time in 1979-82? Anyway, I think I liked it because it was really different from the USA stuff I was used to at the time, so I bought some Old World equipment just because. With pizza cutter wheel flanges, I can't run it on anything current my club has, or even I have. I guess I need to buy some Code 120 track? What did they run this stuff on? Anyway, a nice Lima SBB FFS electric, with pantographs.

That 4-4-2 looks like an MDC Santa Fe Atlantic. I started building one of those in 1966, but sold it to a Santa Fe locomotive engineer before I finished it. I had the runniing gear assembled and if I remember correctly, it ran fine.

My LOTW:
The very very rare Kemtron PUFFERBELLY C&NW Pioneer HO Scale Brass Steam Locomotive
Well what's left of two of them....
Anyone have a tender they would be interested in selling?

This is what the tender should look like:

I picked up this hard to find switcher a week or so ago. Paid to much but I needed it to almost finish off the collection, hand rails are coming soon. I'm looking for the Ford version of this if anyone has a line on one. Tom

Hi All,
JNXT 7707, I like that switcher, how does it pull with two motors?
eaglerock109, Your switcher is nice as well.
Mustangs_n_Trains, That is one tiny train, it would be cool to see that one in action.
EM-1, Great finds! Great prices. I'm not really a steam guy so much, though I do have some steamers. Why was the cab set in the middle of the Camelbacks?
My LOTW is the second steamer my friend gave me a week or so ago. I have found no markings on it. Metal chassis both engine and tender. This thing runs as smooth as butter. With this wheel set up, would this be a 4-6-0?
Thanks for sharing everyone.

mytyco - the Bachmann 70-tonner pulls strong and has good slow speed running as well. Later versions had one larger motor that drove both trucks. I found out why AFTER I got it, there were problems with those early truck mounted motors. Both of the original ones on mine literally went up in smoke! I was too stubborn to give up on it and ordered new ones from Bachmann - they have been doing fine, but it kind of negated the deal I got on the loco originally At any rate, I like it and like the fact that it has two motors, although granted they aren't that big!

Mike, Your model is a Mantua, and yes a 4-6-0. even with the open space from the last driver to the center one.....
I do have one of these, in my active roster, and one being built.....
The completed one:

The second one, needs a bunch of parts as I just got it in a pile from this past Sundays show I attended.....BUT that's OK, the motor runs and its dusty, but........... the boiler is green cab that is SHOULD have I think would have been red, as well as the tender, I think.....Yeah, I'm thinking "Christmassy" here.....
The Camelbacks had the center cab, for the reason of the fire box, being so wide, if you look closely, the Firebox on that model is a bit wide, and to wide to have a cab at normal levels on the real thing. they had such wide fireboxes due to the coal they burned, low grade bituminous coal. It required a large grate area to burn correctly to produce the needed steam evaporation to get the loco under way. Because of this, they needed a special steam locomotive set up to make it happen.. ALOT of eastern roads had them, as that is and was the most abundant type coal in this region.....The Reading Railroad, probably being the most noted railroad to have these type locomotives.....
This however also produced other concerns. if the bearing EVER let go, and the main rod, drop it could have shot it straight through the cab floor, killing ANYONE in its path.....But the more noted issue was personal heat..... that was truly a "Hot Seat" for the 3 men inside the confines of that cab.... Normal Steamer cabs, were torturous in the summer and reasonably decent in the winter, these Camelback cabs were seriously "Sweat Boxes" OR steam powered Sauna..... In the summer windows open and even the roof top vents opened in the manner to pull air into the cab, and blow out the window still produced uncomfortable temps inside that cab,......

Hi all,
Thanks for the ID of my LOTW and the wheel arrangement. Very helpful.
EM-1, Thanks for the info. on the camelbacks. I never noticed how wide the firebox is. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing the picture of your B&O 4-6-0.
Thanks again.
