I bought this American GK NJ Transit E60CP Electric for $10 at a Pa. Merchant Square Mall Show.... Basically, it was a shell and a powered chassis. Both ends were damaged and it was missing a step on each side. This is a very rare engine. I have only seen two on Ebay and both sold for around $150. It took about two years to find an American GK Undecorated E60CP kit and two damaged Am GK E60CP shells on Ebay.
The front fender skirt at both ends was missing pieces out of it....

Using the damaged shells, I was able to cut pieces to fill in the damaged area's. These were Crazy Glued in place and lightly sanded with an Emory board. There were two broken steps replaced with the steps from the donor shell.

After smothing out both ends of the damaged skirt. The skirts and top of the shell was painted with a semi-gloss and then dull-coated so all of the black painted area's matched in color.

Once painted both ends looked like this....

Then final detail pieces for the Pantographs and Electrical Insulators were added. Also 2- 2mm LED light were installed in each nose. These are directional. All of the handrail were painted Mango Orange and dullcoated.

Then there was a disaster.... I was putting it back in the showcase and I bumped the glass door knocking off the smaller repaired piece. I tried fixing it again but it looked like crap. So... I completedly cut the damaged fender skirt off of the good shell and replaced it with one from one of the donor shells. Painted it and dullcoated it. Only a small line is noticeable if one looks closely, between the shell and fender skirt.

This is a pic of the real #959 NJT E60CP...

Nice patch-up work, AF. I'm surprised I never saw one of these in service. That was one long electric.

Thanks Nelson...!!
NJT removed thes E60CP from service in 1990 and most were scrapped. I think they were used on the NE Corridor run, as I never saw them on the Dover line. The Dover line used the Arrow Commuter cars then and those are still in use today.

Pete, I figured they must have been used on the NE corridor. I used to see the ALPs on the M&E and Gladstone lines all the time.

Where did you get the pantographs and other detail for the spak aresstors? I have a PENSY. GK that used ATHEARN 38018 frame. It runs great. I looked at BACHMAN's pantographs but i dont think they are the same. BTW as far as I can find out the E60 units were built for the Pennsylvania rr as a potenial replacement for the GG1s on their N.E. corridor runs

I looked on Ebay for 2 yrs to find an Amer GK Undecorated E60CP. The parts came from that kit. I think I paid $28 for it.
I am still trying to find an Undecorated Amer GK E60CF to make it an NJT E60CF engine. I have one in Conrail.
Nelson.... NJT bought the E60CP's from Amtrak in 1983/4 and used them until 1990, when they scrapped all but one, which went to a RR Museum. The ALP-46's run all of the time on the M&E line. No one make a HO model of the engine. The is another newer engine in use on the M&E line, it is a diesel/electric. It looks like a ALP-46 with the back end of a P-42 and a pantagraph on the back top. I don't know what model engine that is??? Of course no one makes an HO model.

These are RARE? Hell, the LHS has the E60CF version in need of some TLC and parts for cheap, been waiting for someone to take pity on it for 2 years now. Imma get my hands on it and see if I can do the same sort of restoration, look easy enough.
