While working on this model locomotive kit (MPC "The General"), I decided it needed a little customization. This is a static model, so it doesn't actually roll. I decided to add a little more life to it by giving it a working headlamp. With an LED tealight and a little bit of drilling, wiring, test-fitting, and soldering, my locomotive now has a working headlamp! It even flickers a little too.
LED and chip were removed from casing, and new, longer lead wires soldered onto the chip. One wire extends back into the cab, where the battery pack is located, and the other wire connects to the on/off switch just in front of the cab, with another jumper running from the switch to the battery pack.

Nice touch photographing it in low light. Looks like it should with the headlight on.

That's really cool. The LED appears to have a very natural yellow glow.
I installed a super-mini 1.5v bulb with a reflector in my old Rivarossi JW Bowker a few years ago. it took several coats of black & then silver to light seal the lamp interior.
