i always thought the 2 chimney style were obvious,ie straight up for coal and bulbous for wood,so why has the aristocraft 0-4-0 tank and o-6-0 got wood chimney with coal load ken

Spark arresting stacks are not unheard of with coal fired locomotives, especially in logging. Several are preserved on the Cass Scenic Railroad: http://www.cassrailroad.com/

That being said, I think the engine you have pictured there is probably a fantasy design, since they're calling it a switch engine, then putting a mainline-style cow catcher on instead of an end step. They appear to be trying to capture an "old fashioned" appearance.

hi Don I am in process of making one into end step pilot plus steps and handrails near cab,and was tempted to cut spark arrestor of and cap the top in brass ken

cab roof edging to be done,as well as coal load

That's interesting Ken... you put Rivarossi 0-4-0 drivers on a Teakettle? I didn't think the axle diameters were the same.
