On Saturday, I had a really wide-spread experience, as I learned to install Red Caboose couplers on N gauge engines and rolling stock, then when I finished that job, I had a quick in-and-out Lionel caboose light replacement, while the guy was waiting. THEN, my co-worker said Here, work on this baby - an MTH G gauge Rio Grande diesel, needed checking out for resale as used. My first G unit to work on! Alas, not to be, as time ran out on the day, and a pair of MTH O-gauge switch checkouts intervened, so my co-worker will do it. But that was a rather large span in size going from N to G. I"m sure I'll get more chances to work on that stuff. I'm learning quite a bit working here, I must say.

"Gimme" some more like this to work on!

What's that Rio Grande loco supposed to be? It has the turbo stack and fan arrangement of the SD40(-2) but the hood is too short and there are no "porches". Also, the hood ends appear squared off instead of pointed. What is that thing?

I think it resembles those 3 foot narrow gauge locos that were built for the WP&Y but never went Locos were built by the Montreal Locomotive Works 2 of them went to the gypsum mine 3 foot line in Gypsum, California

My bad, it isn't an MTH, it's a LGB, circa 1991-95 for this model, in the Queen Mary series, and it IS supposed to be an Alco narrow gauge diesel. I haven't found any reference as to what it IS actually ( SD, GP, etc ), there is mention of additional fans and cooling details for a "realistic" look. Neat whatever it is.
