You can tell it was the sun by the fact that only the left side is warped so badly, the right side looks "almost" normal. WIth that clear cellophane window, heat can build up REAL quickly, I've seen crafts at shows do this when they're in clear plastic containers, it just holds in the heat and wallah, instant solar oven. I saw some guy at an outdoor train show have some N gauge stock ruined because it sat outside in the sun, and warped the cars and engines after only 30 minutes. NOT good! Need to keep plastics in the shade. And out of attics, too. But this one looks like a sun-baked steam engine.

I know a guy who was selling a whole car-trunk full of $20+ kadee cars at a garage sale, left the trunk open for a while in the hot houston sun and when he came back most of them had melted.

The worst one I seen yet..... was a SET of Rivarossi C&O H-8 Alleghany's 2-6-6-6, that were left in the BACK SEAT covered over in a car, for a bit in a car while the fellow was inside the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum, about 12 years ago........ those 2 'Rossi's were ruined, by mere heat alone! I tried to buy them from the guy, wouldn't hear to selling them....(Yeah, I knew him!) And told him in the heat he should have carried them with him, BOTH were brand new in box. $1,300.00 later......

When I was 10 at a train show, I picked up this cheesy old B&O hopper and the vendor insisted I take it, free, if I could do anything with it. About a minute later I noticed that the bearings on the trucks had been melted onto the ends of the axles. Turns out someone had set it on his dashboard some time before and the hot black surface cooked the trucks! Well, I took it, and one pair of trucks later it works like a charm. Sadly, I've long since pirated the p2k wheelsets that 10-year-old me put on it (which were worth about 3x what the car was!) and lost the remains in my closet.
