Ben & Ray, NICE! All good stuff so far.....SO.... what can I add?
SO....I got:

My question, what should this look like, loaded? As I'm not exactly sure....But shouldn't each "section" have a gas bottle in it? Any help would be GREATLY helpful!

This link is to a former U.S. Army flatcar:
It differs in some respects, but has the same basic shape and style. I'd call this a pretty plausible model.

It definitely is an excursion car -- on this railroad: http://www.thefreeportshow.com/equipment.htm
I was just there yesterday, putting it and the other equipment to bed for the winter.

Ah, so you won that bid. I was watching it for awhile, mainly FOR that streamliner set, but decided there wasn't enough in that lot to interest me otherwise, so I bought a lot of steam engines. Glad to see another member get this.
My OWN COTW is a Firefox airplane launcher, I found an unusual one at the Timonium show, first time I've seen one with a yellow launch gantry, rather than red. Most seem to be red, this vendor had two, one red, one yellow, so I got the yellow one. I also found the accessory flats with tractor trailers on them, but by then I was out of money, hopefully that vendor will be back with them next time. Anyway, launching my photo NOW....

Hi Sean, Lots of good stuff there. The Aero train car set is big. Really looks good. Don't worry about the loco , you will find one. That GN red outside braced box car is a Gilbert and a operating one. The Varney USRA tender and the Mantua tender to the left of the GN box are use full and can be placed behind many different locomotives. The other two tenders you have will also easily find a home. The die cast Mantua switcher and the Brass New One camelback switcher tender speak of projects to come. The 4 Trainminiature box cars are will be at home on any layout and will always look great. The black SP Overnight Merchandise Service Box is one of the best you can find. You even added to your Tyco-Mantua freight cars. The Black and orange NH box is a keeper. That brass 2 bay hopper looks interesting too. Is that a Varney Virginian 2 bay hopper? It looks almost new. Tanks, coach, trolley, sound gondola, Waffle sided car, cranes, a diesel body, and a couple of cabooses fill out of find. Like I said Sean lots of good stuff there.

I'll have to take a closer look, but I'm pretty sure it is removable. I'll let you know if it isn't.
Of course with a razor saw, everything is removable

Thank you Barry. All of the other RPRR cabooses are red, but I saw a blue caboose just like this on the cover of an old Model Railroader and I just had to have a blue one. It's a nice change up.

Thomas, Well sure everything is removable with a razor saw BUT its a caboose and normally the cupola is a snap on part, and was wondering as that caboose would be a good kit bash for a project of mine....
I'll be keeping my eye out on one of them!

Welp, that caboose looks a lot like an old roundhouse caboose I saw recently, and if it's the same tooling that got bought by MP, then the cupola should be removable. I know it is on the roundhouse, and a very similar cupola is on that silver streak caboose.

Glenn, The crown tank car is a nice looking model. It's well proportioned and detailed enough to look good from a normal viewing distance, but not so ornate that you can't fix one broken detail without breaking two more.
The boxcar looks scratch built to me. Notice how every part of it is something you could make at home without building your own industrial base. It's probably a genuine, one of a kind, hand-crafted model.

I'd say we have the average relationship...I'd like to see a lot less of her and she thinks her daughter could have done better.
That being said, she and my wife's sister (and my wife, for that matter) really enjoy giving gifts (everyone get showered with them) so I have a lot of eclectic stuff I wouldn't have otherwise. Other train items I got as belated birthday presents are a Mantua/Tyco Dairymen's League reefer with top and ends repainted brown, a roofless Mantua/Tyco Spreckel's Sugar hopper, an Athearn BB 4 bay hopper lettered for SCL, a 50' gondola lettered for Southern (probably Athearn or Roundhouse), and a Mantua/Tyco 40' boxcar lettered for Southern Pacific.

Yep! those CP aluminum passenger cars are Herkirmer shorty's. A line of Pass cars came from Kasner that were full length. Herkirmer bought the line when it was available, and the short versions are there innovation. frank

Jerry that is quite a car. I think mantua but see a couple of differences. No rivets embossed into the paper sides. Jerry it is a Mantua because I don't think anyone else made the Penn-Drake tank car. I know the trucks are upgraded with Life proto wheel sets and nicer trucks. It is quite a car. Your Dad picked out a good one. The Lackawanna reefer looks mantua to me. frank

* I can see a lot of the Buss'es influence in Gary photography. He hasn't elevate his work up to the trash can lid yet. We all try, but Ben does definitely have that special something in the way, and location. he positions his model trains. I know I will never be his equal. The Buss is the Best !

| One more note, I switch between trash can lid and pickup bed lid depending on which way the sun is shining.

The Lackawanna reefer looks mantua to me. frank

I was never sure what they were, suspected Mantua but I'm no expert. I upgraded the trucks/wheels/couplers a couple years ago so I could run them with my current trains. The old couplers were hook and loop. Still have the old pieces though. I remember an Erie Lackawanna gondola that didn't quite make it, plus a lot of old steel track that had cardboard(?) like ties.

My question, what should this look like, loaded? As I'm not exactly sure....But shouldn't each "section" have a gas bottle in it? Any help would be GREATLY helpful!

EM - that is a Calcium Carbide car. Check out this link: http://ezbizwebsite.com/Newsletters/July%202013%20Newsletter.pdf page 10-12. Gives some history and how someone made the calcium carbide containers for it.

Thanks Jerry!!!! I thought of something similar, but was thinking of more "round" or cylindrical containers....BUT they ARE square holes, after all!
VERY helpful, thanks!
