Gee, I know, I'll post GI Joe for LOTW! Got a set of them, but used the Army set first, so will use my Joengine for this. Haven't tried it yet, I got the tanker, the gondola, the caboose, and the engine in this set. Even got a Cobra tank and infantryman, and one Joe and a boat, too.

Very nice Jerry! Somewhere I have the remnants of a GI Joe engine...no cars though. I do however have a full original set box with the playmat and soldiers.

My LotW is this Tyco Brunswick Green Pennsy F9 I picked up today. I cannibalized the fuel tank off another purchase and installed a new set of tires. She runs smooth as butter!

Photographed with her Tuscan Red counterpart...

Had this one... awhile, BUT, I super detailed it, as its got to be my FAVORITE Chessie of all time......

This one as asked, is a Athearn blue box, "Special Edition" EMD GP40-2, painted factory as seen, super detailed by me.

It PURRS like a kitten.... and GAWD, I best keep it that way, my daughter will not see it any other way! BUT it sure does keep her "in the hobby" for now......

John,
LOL I guess! I just have to say for a Limited Edition from Athearn blue box era it runs very well and looks good too! BUT its got that bling in the gold.....and all the details I added to it.....made it look just that much better but I have to say that picture is old, and "grainy"....I'll have to see if I got a better one of it!!!!!

See if this one is any better?

That's a very cool engine and a nice job of matching that paint on the details you added.

This LOTW is one that's been around a while. My first HO locomotive was a TYCO shifter, long dead with its parts widely scattered among other locomotives. The second one, and the oldest still extant, is this Hudson which was a pacific at first. A few odds and ends with details and paint help it look a little more authentic to my eye and a little added electrical pickup adds dependability. Also, at one point I added Mantua's retrofit for a bigger motor.

The pilot was a little plain to me, so I put a dummy coupler and uncoupling levers on it, and compressors in the covers and kind of grill between them to suggest cooling pipes for the compressed air.

Things were kind of empty under the cab, too, so I added a cab support sheet and the plate that bridges the cab floor to the tender. That plate is made of photographic film and is flexible enough to allow the engine and tender to move independently.

Went to a show in kingston ny sunday and found these great bargins

this one I got for $4 as is runs good missing pilot and couplers and the cab roof is cracked. nothing I can't repair.

this one for $5 needs hand rails which I am good at fabricating and runs fair. probably just a good cleaning and tuneup. both are MANTUA/TYCO units

Nice! Real nice! seeing locomotives of the same road with different color schemes puts a new slant on things. I remember when some of the Class 1's were changing colors and they would have consists of the same locomotives in different colors. Then came the run-through era when we would see all kinds of colors, especially with the advent of Conrail. again, nice engines

Nice 4-6-2's you guys! Needs some work on one and the other looks runnable...

Ben, that little US Army and GI Joe is something.....I may have to keep an eye out on one or the other 'round here......

I have a request for all who post here. When posting please provide a short description of the item(s). Such as: Tyco GP-20 with 4 wheel drive chassis from around 1982. Please for the few of us who do not know, or just have poor memories.

My LOTW is this Rivarossi 2-10-2. It is currently undergoing a B&O-ectomy (removing the sand domes and modifying the smokebox cover) so that it will look more like a Southern Pacific F-series 2-10-2. Apologies in advance to B&O fans.

So. I go outto the post office today to send some mailings that I sold.....WELL upon doing so, I again stopped at my local Antique shop, they have trains there most of the time and found this:

THEN I got to thinking, look in side John, so I did in the shop BEFORE I bought it, and this is what I found:

So, a SECOND LOTW for me!

This little loco is an Athearn Hustler from the early years of the blue box era? The motor sure isn't the "normal" one from any in my collection currently.

Now that you menioned it microbuss, I went back and checked and did not notice it before. It is obvious someone had applied a new decal as you can see the decal sheen on it. checking CNW rosters I couldn't find this engine number either. I guess it was somebody's fantasy engine. I was more interested in the $5 price tag.

John what were they using for a rubber band drive? Twine? Hope it is not metal shavings.

thomas what a fantastic 2-10-2 as for modifying it well a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. can't wait to see how she comes out

That "twine" you see is animal fur........ I'll just say I've seen EVERYTHING imaginable in the older loco's wound up around the motor shafts and such even fishing line!!!!!! Fur and Christmas tinsel being the most common!!!!

Back in the "bad ol' days", a long time ago, in a land far away, Santa Fe ran a midnight train to a GM body assembly plant and retrieved loading. One night a new conductor brought back a whole string of loads, all marked BO on the list, so he listed them as destined for the Rip Track. That's how he found out that B&O does not stsnd for "B ad O Order!

All was dark and cold. Its very soul sensed that wheels were meant to turn, that its very being was meant to move, to push, to pull. Somehow all of meaning was wrapped up in these ideas, more felt than known. And yet, it was trapped, wrapped in plastic, packed in foam and sealed in a box, inert.

Some instinct gnawed at the soul, crying out, "I am locomotive! I move from place to place!" Yet motion was denied. Purpose was smothered in unmoving, unending immobility. This was Perdition, itself, to the soul of a locomotive.

EM-1, That's either a first or second generation Athearn (Yellow Box)...
And that motor looks very good, actually! The housing is almost in "new" shape, to be truthful.
Yes, needs a good shave (and a hare-cut fur) and rubber bands... it'll be zipping around your track like a slot car!

The CNW GP20 isn't fantasy, except for the number: 5628...
Albeit a real GP20 Demonstrator number: 5625, 5626, 5627, 5628.
TYCO had all their GP20's with the same number 5628.
Now, if only I could get my hands on a TYCO DEMO...

Nice entries, people!

John,
Believe it or not, it runs GREAT that old motor looks as tho, its never been used much, the wheels have VERY LITTLE wear on them, and the motor's commutator looks like new! And I haven't cleaned it yet!!!!

So, yeah it will run like a slot car.... When its all cleaned up and on the tracks with new rubber bands on the shafts!

In response to John's post, I have here the same little motor and chassis assembly. It came in a box lot full of stuff. Had no idea what it was for, all I know is that when I tested it, it ran! Been sitting ever since.

Finally got the elusive (to me at least) red version of the Hustler the other day, that's my LOTW but sadly no camera anywhere to be found. Found the shell and then had to pick through a bin of mechanisms till I found one that worked

I've seen guys at shows with whole bins of nothing but hustler shells, here's hoping you find one of those fellas if you're looking for a shell for it.
