Dumping this one on an unsuspecting Forum, I got this LIonel dumping car yesterday out of the train shop's Sell stash. In nice shape with nothing apparently broken. No stationary accessory to go with it however. But a nice car.

Well to add in, my COTW:

These came from a trade, and were in pretty good shape, they will be custom painted to go to either/any of the B&O passenger trains, I'm continuing to model.....

I got this at a show today. It's a Marx Santa Fe boxcar, but it also has a "SEARS" logo. That's what caught my eye. I like cars with advertising.

I like the green Sears box car a bit more, but both are interesting none the less, wonder the same thing Ben!

I'm not sure of the Marx tho....Yours is an actual "Sear & Roebuck" store car, where the other just has "Sears" on it, with Santa Fe......Not sure if they are one and the same!

Sears almost in every set made for sale in their stores had a different designed box then the standard Marx set box of the time. The sears name can be found on the box. Also inside marx had either a sears box car or the Allstate tank car. Sears had ties to the Allstate insurance name.

That Lionel dumping car is a PRR. I just sold one of those on ebay. Didn't go for much - $2.25.

That is surprising. The two Lionel cars I recently sold went for good prices. Hard to tell about eBay though.

Hey Jerry, That dumping gondola brought back a good memory. When I was a young kid, my Dad had a Lionel standard gauge and a dumping car with that. I remember it was interesting to me to see how the linkage worked and the sides closed. Unfortunately, he ended up selling that set.

I can see that a great number of Great Northern freight cars are flooding the Catford section of London. The PGW will need new yards to hold all these cars.

Sean; I never seen the Red Ball container car before. Is it all die cast metal, or just painted gray. Quite a piece of railroad train car history. Thanks for posting the photo .

John, Frank!
It has a wood base and ends. The sides and ends are laminated in thick cast metal. The containers are also made of wood with two sides being laminated in metal.

It is a pretty cool and rare car. I've only ever seen 3 or 4. I bought 2 of them. The others sold for $36-40+. I wasn't willing to pay that much. Less than $20 and I'm ok.
