I recently got a Tyco Chattanooga Choo-Choo 0-8-0 steam locomotive and tender. The motor works pretty well, and was recently oiled and had the pickup wheels cleaned, BUT - there aren't any traction tires on the motor wheels. This affects its performance on my layout.
I am considering getting this product:

http://www.bullfrogsnot.com/

Now, I believe the Tyco tender has the "grooved" wheels, so this means I would probably have to apply a couple of layers per wheel, as mentioned on the installation instructions. I am also going to see if I have or can borrow some alligator clips for the recommended installation method.

Any advice/comments? I'd like to know some before I go and shell out 20 bucks for the bullfrog snot...

Try these traction tires, they work pretty well.

You might be able to find them local to you if you dont want to mail order them.

I have to admit the Bullfrog Snot has me a bit in question....I heard good replies on it.

I may try it to see how it works and see what is entailed to make it conform to the driver applied too....But as mentioned, its difficult to shell out 20 bucks for something, your unsure of....

The snot won't fill those grooves at all! I use the Calumet tires with good luck.

You know, I think I WILL try those out! They are pretty affordable, too. I just hope traction tires aren't TOO difficult to install, but given the design of the Chattanooga tender motor, it shouldn't be too hard...

I haven't taken a picture yet, but my new Chattanooga locomotive is THIS kind:

I believe it's a modified Consolidation with a different boiler front plate with a centered headlight and the front truck removed.

I have used the bullfrog snot to improve the traction on my tyco drives with good success Granted it was used to improve worn down tires At $20 a jar may seem steep, but a little goes a very long way. Replacing the tires is the best first option and thanks for web site info. Sure beats EBAY. If the tires are just worn, this will improve your performance greatly.
