Well, I re-soldered my engines' wires today and had power, light came on, motor was running, but the train (engine) would not move and then the motor was making a squealing sound at full power and I did not see any gears turning. Does this possibly mean that the motor is ka-put? Could it be that the gears are slipping on their shafts and should be glued back on or something? I have a couple of other engines and I will try to swap motors around and see if I can get this thing to run.

Can you still find parts for these train engines, such as hand rails, couplers, and brake wheels?

sounds like a froze gear the motor is turning but the shaft isn't turning the gear

After comparing the motors that I have, I have discovered that my original motor was missing a couple of gears,(I wondered why it looked different). I have no idea why they would be missing, I do not recall ever working on this other than pulling it apart and seeing that the wires had come loose. that was so many years ago so who knows what happened to the gears. My goal now is to try another motor that I have tested and know it runs.
The motor that I am going to use is from a "Shark Nosed" called "Rock Island". The motor looks a little different and the light configuration is a bit odd being mounted directly on the motor, I think once the light is removed it will fit.
