Ok for those of u that remember, in my first post here back in september on whenever it was, I asked how to fix the silver gear on the drive shaft in a PT. It was falling off as it ran. Anyway, it's been about 5 months and it still doesn't work right. The motor spins but the train doesn't run right. I think it's cuz the gear isn't clinging to the shaft properly. I've tried nail polish, and super glue, but the gear still doesn't grip the shaft. The glue seems to have worked on the other PT but not this one. What am I doing wrong?? Should I use sauter or what?

Hi,
You may want to crimp the shaft. It may be a bit difficult to force the silver gear back on, but once it is on, it should not allow slippage. And, if it's hard to put on by your forcing, then it couldn't come off by itself.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.

Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

That sounds like a very good and practical technique. [:D]

Well, if I can get the gear off then I'll try it. The glue seems to have formed on the end of the shaft, keeping the gear on, but not sticking it to the shaft.

You also might try roughing up the shaft a little (now why does that sound obscene) with some emery paper or a small file it should give the glue a rougher surface to adhere to. I'v had some luck that way and I have had some luck crimping the shaft but I remember 1 I did cracked the gear when I was reinstalling it so don't crimp it too much. And you may have to sand or file off the glue on the end to slide the gear off.

Well, yesterday I took the truck frame and the gears out and squeezed the shafts, but in the process I also pulled a poorly saudered wire off the motor. My dads good saudering gun isn't working so I'll have to get him to resauder it for me with the other one. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it tonight since I'm going to volleyball tryouts, but I'll let you guys know if it works as soon as I get the motor back together. I really don't wanna get another engine to swap the motors out, cuz I've already got the one engine not working, so if I buy another one, then the busted PT and rear truck are goin on one of my other shells...and I can't help tinkering with motors so I'm still gonna keep trying to fix the other one anyway.

I just put back together a weathered GT C430 with PT and the gear was slipping. I gave it one good squeeze with my needle nose pliers and it looked as if I barely touched it. When I put the gear on it seemed solid and I ran it several hard laps even pulling a train and it looks like it will be ok. I did take off the large plastic gear and pushed the shaft out from the other side to get as low on the shaft as possible.

Did you squeez the gear or the shaft? And you say you pushed the shaft out. Is there any sort of magnetic field in there that I have to worry about?

I pushed on the brush side of the shaft, motor, so that the side of the shaft holding the gear would stick out as much as possible. At this point the gear was off. Then I squeezed the shaft on the gear side. You could do this but using a tooth pick and pushing on the shaft on the brush and wires side where it says oil.
I ran it about 1/2 hour ago and it still works. I hope it lasts.

Good Luck!

Thanx guys!![:D] The wires have been resauldered and the motor is back in. I put it on the tracks and in runs great forward and reverse. It pulls the matching cars no problem too.
