Thanks Jerry, John, As far as covering the rock (paper bag), my thoughts presently are to try and mimic the ground cover of the background photo including more trees. However, where I was initially thinking I needed like 50 trees, I now see that would be way too many and there may be some merit in sparse; providing I get the rest of the groundcover straight. The background photo has literally a hundred or more people walking around and standing around the train(s) . . . a "section" . . . and I can see where I need probably at least a dozen more people; particularly some "Victorian" women and children. Also, I'm still not pleased with the way I'm depicting the water flowing under the trestle (there are things I'm pretty certain I'll be changing as I come to more appropriate ideas on how to depict things). There is another dimension to this that doesn't show up and that is that I've attached some rock (more paper bag) to the inside of the lift up window so that when the shadowbox access is closed you see another layer of rock in front of the rock work that is inside the box. I haven't figured out how to best photograph this yet. Photos through the glass (like this one) show the added dimension, but photographing through the glass picks up glare and reflection. I also need to ballast the track and basic stuff like that yet.

Here's one through the glass that I just took; sunlight creating shadows. You can see a bit better the dimension added by the stuff attached to the glass frame. I'm thinking some light coming from the interior may help . . . maybe like one of those lights you put on top of an aquarium (e.g., with the housing over it and then just a small opening in the top of the box for it to shine through?). For the long term, I'm thinking maybe some lighting inside the coach, etc., but that is quite a ways out yet. I can see this project taking a long time; going at my snail's pace.

Thanks Ken. As I think of it, I'm not sure it will ever be finished. With the easy access via the front glass panel, I can change things pretty much as needed, or just get the train out and run it around the track. Since my "layout" is like tiny (see photo) 4 X 5, the shadowbox expands my possibilities beyond a corner of the attic.

The track piled near the front is maybe where I'm thinking of adding another yard?

Barry, the shadow box looks AWESOME! Nice work!
The layout looks cool in the corner, my only thought would be to raise it but the roof angle on the inside makes that a bit difficult to keep it somewhat "confined" to the area. Nice part of that tho, if you did, you could mount the whole works to the walls and would only need one leg in the open corner that is out where your power pack is!
Altho, with what you have done with the shadow box, you could do miracles on your layout.....Something else, if you added height to the lower level (seen now) you could have a upper level.......Pretty easily, as well, and done right, you could get a 3rd in there too!
