From the SOTW post to here, I set up a partial track on my hot tub, and tried the monorail out. Looks like the contacts aren't clean, I could get it to move a few inches, but will need a tune-up. The engine runs fine with power applied directly, so it's either the rails are dirty ( felt sticky ), or the pins aren't tight, or the contacts inside the shell aren't doing their job. At any rate, it will take a bit of work to get it going. Even as a static setup it's the squirrel's nuts to me.

Doesn't look like I have enough curved pieces to make a complete circle, nor enough pylons. Still, it's a start. I have the monorail and some track, so I can go from there.

Hopefully track is a little easier to find than the train itself. Cool set regardless!

Sweet setup! Here is one source for parts that I have found in my research. Be forwarned... parts are rare and expensive.

I have that and I love it!

Doug Burwell, at the above website, is the guy to contact. He is great!!!!!

I think you are missing a couple curve pieces and several pylons to get it to work. 13 curves makes a circle. You need a pylon at every other section. The rails need to be free of grime for the engine to run well. I use an LGB transformer and it works great; currently planning a layout.

You also need the contacts (I forget what they are called) for connecting the wires to the track. And, the switch on the side of the engine allows for two engines to be run on the same track; one picking up power from the left rail, the other picking up power from the right rail.

Great find!!!

>>>> Thanks for that answer! So, how do you make an oval, if it takes an odd number of curves to make a circle?

And, the switch on the side of the engine allows for two engines to be run on the same track;

>>>> yeah, I wondered what that switch did! Thanks for the info!

Great find!!!

I guess you can use 14 curves on the oval. Doug suggests 13 for a circle so the circle isn't as tight and the monorail doesn't bind. I had that problem.

You will also need "U clips" which hold the track pieces from coming apart.

The words I couldn't think of were "terminal clips" for attaching the wires to the track.

Wait until you see it go, it is mesmerizing! There are some videos on YouTube. Yours is the earliest version; later ones had tail fins on the rear car. They came in red, silver and blue.

Email Doug, he is THE GUY for these monorails and he is really nice.
