well today I actually disassembled my old mantua ten wheeler and began the task of stripping the paint. plans are to convert it to Ludlow and southern #2
now a short history of the actual railroad, the article is from here: http://www.ttrr.org/ls_text/lspb_001.html
and in brief copy quote:Equipping the new railroad was not overly expensive either. This was because virtually all of its rolling stock was purchased used.
The first locomotive was acquired from the New York Central, as was a passenger coach which was reputed to have been at one time the private car of United States Senator Chauncey M. Depew, a former president of that railroad. Doubtless it was no coincidence that Depew was one of the investors owning Bagdad Mining and Milling, which had purchased Suter's mines and claims. He also owned part of Randsburg-Santa Fe Reduction, the milling plant in Barstow, and part of the Ludlow & Southern. The L&S's second locomotive was a nearly new Baldwin switcher built in 1905 and originally used by the Tonopah & Goldfield Railroad. When the locomotives were renumbered for L&S service, the former T&G switcher became Number 1, and the former NYC locomotive became Number 2. Number 3 was another Baldwin switcher. It appears that the L&S also acquired a Heisler geared locomotive, but just when and where is not clear.

so now, the issue of #2 is....what would the color be? and herin lies my question, now I've tried trainorders but somehow they poo poo on Tyco, or in the aspects of doing any research I was directed to books for sale, google came up with both the tender and # as an unfinished diesel or gas mechanical critter. so fine I can't get an accurate pic of L&S #2 which, in a way makes my job easier...no prototypes to nitpick over!
However, I would like to know a good period scheme for the ol' workhorse, not as fancy as Sierra #3 but something that NYC would have had for those old 1880's 10 wheelers
so...anyone have any ideas on what to try?
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

I found this on the Fallen Flags website: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/lsms-s0000brk.jpg
It's an NYC locomotive, credit for the photo is H.S. Ludlow. Is the name just a coincidence?
LSMS railroad
