For my pick of the first Locomotive of the Week of July, I choose my recently-completed paint project known around as "Oswald". Why that name? Well, one must take initiative if nobody's ever named a locomotive that!

Picked her up on April 20th, 2013 at the Train Shack in Burbank as part of "The Junction Special", a Mantua train pack that cost me $150 as a second-hand bargain. The following link shows the set in the 1994 Mantua catalogue, at the bottom -> http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3554/3326914548_f88faa154f_o.jpg & http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3629/3326077391_8cc1511398_o.jpg

The silver smokebox front was inspired by the smokebox design of the famed "Hooterville Cannonball" from Petticoat Junction, and I want to apologize for the size of the photos if they are quite large. I hope you all can enjoy and appreciate her!

* Silvine (new one) 0-4-0t teakettle. All metal. My paint. I do wish that the adjective use in the response wasn't the one used.

Rey you should go to Roundhouse in North Hollywood. Much friendlier and better prices Love your 4-6-0. I only go to train shack to browse. Had so many bad experiences with them as did my mother and roundhouse employees.

Speaking of Roundhouse this is one of many engines I've bought from them. Bachmann Union Pacific 0-6-0 4441.

Really? I thought the Roundhouse was closed. At least the Train Shack has more available than the Whistle Stop in Pasadena and Culver City's Allied Model Trains. With Allied, they have a lot, but not really of the stuff you really look for unless you're big into Lionel or Continental brands, and I never had bad service at Train Shack.

Oh yeah Roundhouse has been opened since it was first founded in the 50s or 60's I believe. Been going there ever since I was born and they really love my family. Could be because to give a rough estimate I've probably dropped over $1500 in there over the last 10 years That's sad to here about Allied as I was looking to possibly visit there. Mainly I just wanted to see how they do their custom painting.
Their banner or sign on the front of their shop was removed last year due to deterioration. They made a new sign and are waiting to install it.

My post has a open frame vertical shaft motor. It has a disk type commutator that sits on top of the windings. The brushes press down from above. Standard type for the New One locomotives.

Another So Cal railroader. Cool. Agree with hyde about Train Shack. The employees are jerks. Yes they have great stuff but I would much rather drop my hard earned money at either Whistlestop or Roundhouse.

If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.

The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is what you're talking about. Been there and yes, it is quite impressive

Got a second engine to show. Won this off ebay earlier today. Wanted one of these for years now, an AHM Conrail A-3 shifter. I have the SP Daylight one which I had also wanted so now I've got my 2 most desired A-3s. There have been about 3 Conrail a-3s on ebay in the last 2 months or so but they were all missing key parts so this one came along and couldn't have been more perfect. For a steal too $10!! Sorry for the terrible listing photos. Hope to enjoy this little beaut next week and with my good camera get good pictures.
