This building was to be the Life-Like 3 story Hotel......I had 2 of these kits. I got to looking at it, wanted to add something of an interior, nothing special, but for lighting.....

Well once I really, and I mean really got to looking at this building, its really to narrow for a Hotel! Well, because I had 2 of these kits at the time, I thought that the 2 of them kitbashed would make an AWESOME school!

This is the 3 story unit:

I have yet to paint the windows! As they are the same color of brick red that I used to make the whole set up the same in color, or well relatively close, as you'll see what I mean in a bit.

Then, I took the other kit out, and did the same thing to it as the one pictured above. HOWEVER, minus one floor! To give the whole building some character. I saved that single floor for another use!

Here is the 2 story section:

Notice, the windows on this unit, are painted! They will be this color on the whole building. Another note is the roof! I added the stone roof cover as alot of flat roofs have! I have yet to add the roof door door casting. On both towers!

Then here is the real reason, I had to paint the towers, the same shade of red:

Now, this is the Main Entrance of the school. Notice thatthe towers were built backwards! I wanted all windows on the towers, this side, and the doors on the rear! NOW, as you know this creates a small problem with the building. The fire exscape! I will have to modify it to fit around the corner on each tower to NOT block the lower door for the play ground and such from the back of the building. This is the reason I had to paint the red bricks over! It would not have matched the factory Life-Like shade of red!

Here is a better view of the Main Entrance:

Then a good shot of the roof over the Main Entrance:

Now this is all thats going to be done! I plan to run a roof along the front of the building, and then down both sides! Along with some other things, as you will see as it all happens!

Enjoy!

This is true Ben....HOWEVER the building that I'm making is close to a real life building in my home town that once was the High School, and I know they didn't have A/C back then!

Sadly enough the building to this day, doesn't have A/C, its now used as a Community Center.....BUT, they still use the original boiler room, and a boiler that was built from the surroundings of the original!

I actually stayed in a hotel like that during my sojourn on the Santa Fe, in Joliet and Kansas City. Does anybody reemember the hobby shop on Troost Avenue, there?

RB,
A hotel like the one I've used, (old Life-Like Beledere, Hotel) OR the building I built from 3 of the same kits? (My build will be a school!)

I stayed at the Drury Inn at Union Station in St. Louis last year. It was at one time a railroad YMCA used by train crews. It looks much like the "Hotel Belvedere". Some of those old buildings are still in use (with A/C on the roof). Your hotel wouldn't look out of place in a present day downtown or historic district. Your canopy out front (I like that) looks like it has been somewhat modernized.

Rich,
See, what I'm doing isn't even a Hotel, at all! Mine is actually being built, as a school... Difficult to tell right now, BUT, its going to have that same canopy, down the front off each side of whats seen, and then, down both sides of the building "towers".

The part of it to remember, is I'm modeling transition, and this is/was something close to that seen in my home town in Pennsylvania. The actual building, had been re-done at some point in the late 1950's.....Reason? Unsure, BUT, the earlier pictures I've seen it had just a single tower, the 3 story one, and the center lowest section, as an entrance.....Open walk-in type side walk entrance-way. THEN in I think the picture dated to 1959-61, the 4 story tower was added, and the whole building was surrounded by a canopy, with the brick front supports on the main entrance canopy. The significant part was the old school bell was centered just behind the peak of the canopy you see here.....just behind the brick work fascia. I have yet to add the maintenance office to the side of the one tower, and then the other tower has a chimney attached to it that's square, NOT round....And that, will be the building. I have to start the school yard with old time playground......
