So the parts engine I recieved as a birthday gift for 2 mantua steam projects I had apparantly had no axle bearings when original constructed? Was this a later year improvement. It was a plastic boiler and tender version. Were there any advantages? Thanks!

No advantage.
Non rebuildable.
Late food company Tyco. Supposedly fixed when Mantua took it back.
Works okay as long as it isn't worn out and you keep it lubed.
Better engines don't have bearings either, so don't feel bad.
