I wanna use a 4-4-0 lead truck from the Mantua 4-4-0 and add it to my Mantua 2-8-2. Will it work using the old mounting holes and such? Will it clear my drivers also? If not, what can I do?

I just looked at my 2-8-2 and my 4-8-0 (closest handy with a 4-wheel leading truck), quick answer is no.
The smaller wheels won't fit under the cylinders, nor between the lead drivers and cylinders.
Test fit it and see.
Maybe the 4-4-0 is different, but I don't think so.

Sorry....got called away. I think the later Hudson styles had a different frame and cylinder positioning.
Cylinders should line up with stack, so one needs to move the drivers back. Which means new designed crosshead mount, main rod, eccentric or valve rod, pilot deck, rear frame to boiler mount.
Maybe you could grind huge recesses in the back inside rear of the cylinders, but it's going to be a job to get it right and let everything still work...for not much gain in appearance.
Opinion.
That said, the Pacific did it, but the drivers are a bit further back. As did the later Hudson.
