Hello everyone. I am new here and glad to have found this forum. I have had a Durango set since I was 10 years old but it hasn't been running for many years, it has been very well taken care of and each piece was stored in their little brown boxes, engine and floodlight car both stored in their original styrofoam cut outs along with their boxes as well, in fact I have all the cars that came with the set, but somehow the cattle depot was misplaced over the years. I have the cows and the truck and some of the fencing as well, and I even have the plain box that the depot came in, but it is gone. Anyway, my question is this. The wires have come unsoldered from the front of the engine, I think there were three wires. I remember this was the reason I boxed it all up years ago, it ran well until the wires came loose. Is there a wiring diagram anywhere to guide me when I try to solder the wires back? Thanks for any help on this, I am hoping to get this thing running again so my 4 yr old son can maybe enjoy something that I had as a kid.

I don't have a Durango GP20 to compare for the specific "flavor" of wiring, but I can try and give you general help. The thing to keep in mind is that while Tyco did revise some of the wiring particulars over the years, in general it all works the same way. Think of where the electricity flows:
Basically, you have one wire from the rear truck, that goes up front, near where the motor is. That rear truck should have the metal wheels on the opposite side as the front (motor) truck.
The front truck gets fed directly from the wheels to the motor chassis. But it still needs to electricity from the other rail, which is fed from the back. And then you have that headlight in the middle. So, how it all connects together is:
- Rear truck connects to headlight clip. (wire one) - Headlight clip also connects to motor terminal "A" (for reference) (wire two) - headlight bulb connects to motor terminal "B" (wire three).
Now this is the best I can remember, here at work. I also only have two photos that aren't the best for wiring, but may help to give you an idea. (The top photo is an engine with a reversing headlight option so there is an extra fourth wire for the rear headlight). In the close up of the motor truck (from a C430), there are TWO black wires there, not one. They join together on the headlight clip. The one going "out of the photo" would connect to the rear truck.

In the meantime, try to inspect the broken wire ends and match them to the solder pads - you might be able to narrow it down. If I got something wrong, I'm sure someone will step in and correct me before I have time to verify this again at home.
Hope that helps and good luck! Welcome to the forum! And have run with your resurrected Durango!
BTW the cattle pen base is the same one as used for the Piggyback set - just with holes for the fence posts.

Thank you so much for that explanation, I think I can figure it out now. I have 3 other train engines that were given to me over the years and they all have loose wires. I have a F9A Santa Fe, and Shark Nosed Midnight Special, and a Shark Nosed Rock Island. Hopefully I will be able to have them all running soon. Looks like I have a nice weekend project. Thanks again.
