And just for the heck of it, here is the operating hopper collection I mentioned waaay back at the beginning of this thread:

I didn't realize I had more than two Spreckel's Sugar cars.

I apologize for the fuzziness of the pic. It was difficult to get the entire collection in one frame with my cell phone camera.

Nice collection you've got there. It seems like the slope keeps getting slipperier and slipperier.

I completed my Tyco brown box billboard hopper collection today at the train show in Greensboro, NC. Not that hard a task since there are only four of them. The Revere hopper does not appear to have ever been removed from the cardboard insert!

Another Varney/Life Like flat lettered for the Pennsy

I noticed these cars have three mounting bosses underneath but none of mine have anything mounted to them. Does anyone know if the maker installed anything to these bosses?

I have a couple like that except they have fish belly center sills on them. The sill on one is metal and on the other it is plastic.

Nice Pennsy.I've seen these things posted all over this forum yet I can't seem to find them at train shows. Odd.

Found a Domino sugar car with a logo at the Hickory, NC train show Saturday:

It's missing one corner step, but I couldn't pass it up.

Also two 4-bay Tyco hoppers, B&M and BN:

Almost there with the 4-bays...just Reading to go!

Also, I don't really need these, but I just couldn't help myself...

(umm...who put these banana peels here?)

I saw at least one more BN hopper in good shape at the train show, so they're out there! And the Domino car ain't perfect; If you look at the pic, you can see a few missing pieces of white in the logo (the logo on the other side looks pretty good, though), and there are nicks in the edge of the roof molding. And the missing corner step, like I mentioned before. Still, I found one with a logo.

I fought the urge for years. A busted up Myrtle's Whistle Stop Café pushed me over the edge, though I did not know it at the time. A few failed experiments with Tyco locomotives and the garbage pancake motor almost kept me clear, until I saw the NH box car...

I understand all too well that slippery slope... Although mine is not with regards to TYCO, but I do like my Mantua, Penn Line/Bowser & Varneys!

This was Monday's haul! I visited a gent who lives near Lew English, the former owner of Bowser Manufacturing. (at least where Lew used to live as he is now long gone!). He happened to be there when Lew's sons were cleaning out his house and has a large portion of Lew's collection. I plan to go back for a lot more!

Thanks Glenn - if memory serves (and my memory only has limited serving hours) I acquired that flat in a big "junk bag" from an antique/flea market, not sure it even had trucks. It had remnants of those brown plastic attachments on it, but only remnants so I removed them. It's plastic of course but has a rectangular stick of soft metal in the spine for weight.
Something about it was too cool to leave it alone, so I repainted and decaled it in its original NYC lettering, added some numbers and discovered that this scraper would fit perfectly.
One of my favorite cars now

I've got a couple of cars that have that feature including my old, cheap Varney caboose. I don't know why that thing has those spring loaded trucks at all because it's so cheap. I got it in a lot with three Tyco/Mantua Confederate coaches for my Rivarossi 4-4-0 at a train show a year or two ago.

Thanks Ben, I found that road grader and its attachment gear on a Cox flat car I picked up at a train show. Don't know if it was original to the Cox however

I've slipped a little further!

The track (including the actuating section) and the instructions are missing. It came with three 9" straight sections, but none are Tyco track, which I beLIEve would be correct for the mid/late '70s, but it has the bag of coal!

Say, his name wouldn't happen to be Rich, would it? Mainly deals in larger scales but acquired a large portion of Lew's old collection, including
some Winton kits?

The TOHD flares up again!

These are a couple of my latest acquisitions - two more Tyco operating hoppers:

I found these at an antique mall in Greensboro, NC today. The sugar car was $2.00 and the Virginian was $3.50 - train show prices, surprisingly.

I've lost count again, but these put me in the neighborhood of 30 of these things!

...Still slipping...

This Kellogg's red-letter edition is courtesy of MBVince.

I still need the non-red-letter Kellogg's, Sanka, Maxwell House, and Alcan.

Oh, by the way, I do have this:

I don't remember what happened, but I did start cleaning it up for restoration, eons ago...just need to find parts...I don't hold out much hope for the end ladders and bracing though.

This isn't Tyco, obviously, but in great shape and for five bucks at an antique mall, I couldn't pass it up!

The white spots on "Niagara" are pieces of the price sticker; I didn't see them until after I'd taken the pics.
