Hi,

I just joined a few days ago and I didn't know this place existed until I started researching Tyco trains because I had a set when I was a kid. It was one of the Civil War sets, the Union one I think, but I can't be sure. Anyway that was long time ago and now that I am retired I wanted to set up a train layout and was trying to figure out how to approach my wife with the idea when out of the blue a couple of weeks ago she said she wanted a Christmas train garden for when the grand-kids visited. Just the excuse I needed to start searching for trains on eBay.

Being new to the forum I have been mostly reading posts in the forum and following links to other sites for train info. I was a lurker for at least a month or two before I joined and discovered this site from Tony Cook's Ho Resource page.

I do have a question regarding the avatars. What are the rules for uploading images, etc., besides from the obvious - keep it clean and non-offensive. I have found a couple on the net through Google, but am concerned with possible copyright issues concerning using defunct railroad logos. Are the avatars available on the forum created by members and/or the admins? If so, is there a method for requesting a specific avatar be created?

A little more background on me, I'm from Baltimore, did three years with the Army in Vietnam and Germany, like Astronomy, photography, model building (mostly space and aircraft) , hunting. fishing, own a 106 lb yellow lab named Whisky, and still live in Md, but not for long.

Regards,

Brian (Poly class of 68 - for the other members who are from Baltimore)

Hi Brian,
Welcome back to model railroading. I don't think there is any problem with using railroad heralds for an avatar. It's non-commercial use.
My avatar came from the site Administrator, I think. One day somebody on the forum asked if anyone wanted railroad avatars and 'poof' I got my request for A&R.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.
