While raiding my work dumpsters yesterday, scoring some nice new hardware in bags another company threw out, I found this cute little mini-level in a bag, and decided to have some fun with it. I was gonna fit it to my glasses and tell people at work I was very "level-headed" < pause for laughter > , but then had a BETTER idea. Before I left work today, I used our label making equipment to come up with a scale on silver metallic label. I brought this item home, and put it on a simple flatbed car. The result? An Inclinometer ( In-cly-nom-e-ter ) car, that tells you what grade the train is pulling currently. I thought this rather clever, so I will formalize the car, maybe use a Tyco flat. At any rate, what do you think? - Jerry -

TIQ...
Walther's Tongue In Cheek cars. You got the picture, mail it to yourself, dated. Submit it to Walther's. I think it would sell very well.
Walther's had a "Impact" car which housed a steel bearing, 'bout 3/4" in diameter, in a clear plastic box... the bearing rolled on two, also enclosed, rails. There were sensors on both ends, inside the clear box, that, if contacted with the bearing, would complete the circuit and set off a light atop the car. Oh, the entire car somewhat resembled a normal boxcar, but with a clear plastic box.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Actually, Ken, the idea has real merit! You may have seen those small digital gauges that measure inclination very precisely- used in a woodshop for precise setting of a table saw blade angle- I think one brand name is Wistix(?).
A modeler could use a flat car with one (mounted in a similar fashion to your level) to determine the grade of a rise on the layout. Using that info might come in handy when selecting the right engine to use with X number of cars to operate best without stressing the motor of the engine at a given speed.
Your creation, by itself, still is a fine one- funny, but practical. Hats off to you!

I say, CRE-TIC IT!
Create the Tongue In Cheek!!!
C'Mon, Man! Do it! Then, when it's patented, you'll make $1,000's and then all those people who saved your life will ...
But Seriously Folks, Life's Been Good... and, I'm serious, too. Show the Walther's gang...
1. It's so simple 2. It's comical 3. It's practical!
Could also mount a pendulum meter with a needle and inertia figures... dynamometer,
I would like to order the second one made... # 0002, 'cuz someone else would beat me to the first.
I'm serious, too. Show Walther's.

Neat car! I would buy one. You could add a work caboose shed on one end and a few maintenance crew figures, to make it look like a car the 1/87 scale folks use for track repair.
