List, I picked this up several years ago. Have not been able to ID it since then. Maybe someone here can? No luck on a few of the other sites either. It is a brass shell of, who knows what? I call it an E-4 1/2, just for kicks. It is powered by a power truck, similar to what I remember an old Marx diesel switcher once had. Side frames are also brass or possibly bronze. Front truck is a dummy. It is 8 1/2" long. I included several photos. I am guessing its early 50's vintage, but not sure. Any help is appreciated. And yes, I am considering selling it because I don't collect that kind of stuff really. Thanks, Gary

| The vents/fans on the top remind me a bit of the Australian Clyde built diesels, although most of those were double-enders. Maybe it's Australian???

that's a Pitman motor...
Looks like Milwaukee Road or Bessemer & Lake Erie paint
I'd say a multiple project... SD9 trucks beneath a makeshift FT-mix lookingE-unit with those round and square holes in the side... and the vent/grill work behind the cab windows looks like a Baldwin-type feature...
Must have been an unfinished model prototype, like the Athearn DD40... of which the DD40 never existed in real life. GP40 SD40 DD40? (and in Pennsy, B&O, CB&Q paint? Possible real buyers were SP and UP, also in available paint, and the beautiful Demo-matching the SD45's!) Athearn 'shoulda' went for the DD35...
Yours... The manufacturer started with the nose, cab, top, multiple side views of different cab units... and then, "Oop's, 3 axle truck..., but easy, jiffy-quick motored truck available for the immediate time."
And it's brass...
It'd be a collector item like my red on grey DSSA Athearn GP9 with all the added brass trimmings, lift rings, m.u. hoses and sockets, marker jewels... the works of a beautiful GP9, battleship grey with bold red DSSA decals.
A real collector item, your... uh... EEE-unit. Perfect just for kicks. Especially if you understand about the DSSA and EMD units.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

I would love to have something like that! Just what is it is the million dollar question.

| It's also possible someone repowered an early brass cab unit with a later drive from what was on hand. Some of those were pretty bad when they first came out.

| Yeah, the only way to find it might be to sit down with a complete set of MR and/or RMC from around 1953-1965 and look at all the ads, and see if it turns up.

| I knew this one would give you guys fits trying to figure what company made this "thing". I know there was a company out there called Bar-Nixon. I know they at one time offered a crude FM Switcher back in the day. It also had a brass shell. But I dont know what kind of drive. Does anyone know if Bar-Nixon made other locos other than that FM Switcher? ...Gary

Isn't the drive mechanism from Revell? I have that same power truck. Was wondering the origin of it.

I recommend posting it to the Vintage HO Yahoo group for an ID. There are quite a few old salts there who really know their stuff.

Nelson, I believe that was the first place I checked with when I purchased this a few years ago. No luck there either. Maybe try again as there may be new members that came aboard.

Wow, if they didn't know then no one does. If it was a one-off then no one is going to have any info, unless somebody knew the builder. I think that power truck is typical of many older brass drives.
But like you said, it doesn't hurt to post it again since it's been a few years.

| OK, time to let someone else own this loco. See the pics in the original post I made about this diesel. Since no one can seem to pin point the maker, its time for someone else to be the only one to own this particular "thing". hahaha. Give it your own name. It can be yours. Being there isnt anything of exact likeness around to give a value, let me know what you want to offer for it. If the offer is tempting for me to let it go, I will. Make it a good one, cause it may go fast. Thanks, Gary
