Hello All, I'm looking at a Mantua Pacific on Ebay, and it is lettered (on the tender) for "Great Central". Does anyone know if this was an original offering, or has it been re-lettered? By the way, there was a Great Central is Eastern Colorado (shortline), and of course the Great Central in Britain.................correction, the shortline in Colorado is the Great Western..

I was leaning that way--the boiler paint looks flatter than normal, and I've seen a lot of Mantuas in my time, but never this lettering.

Thanks....Nice name though...would be a good name for a freelance model railroad--very broad and general. I'm sure it's been done before. Of course, one of the greatest model layouts ever was Rev. Peter Denny's "Buckingham Great Central" in the U.K. It was freelanced, but based on the real G.C. in the U.K. You can google "New home sought for Cornish Vicar's layout" and you should still be able to find a little video on his layout.

Most of the Mantua engines were offered as kits also. So it may have come with no paint. Thus that is the 'original' paint job so to say :).
